Workplace in a daze...
We just found out that one of our managers died last night. He had bad lungs already and he ended up with a lung infection this winter that just wouldn't go away. He was on oxygen just so he could walk around, and he checked himself into the hospital a couple of weeks ago so he could try to heal.
We were filling out a get well card for him today, and I was put in charge of sending some flowers. The lady from the flower shop called me at the store about an hour later and said that the hospital had called her to say that the person being delivered to had passed away 2 days ago. So I ran to the the store GM and told him...He looked surprised but not shocked, which told me how little the rest of us on the store level knew was going on. One of the other guys came to my office about a half hour after that call and said that yes, it was true.
*sigh* He was this aging hippy who liked independent folk rock, and was one of the best managers I've ever had. He really cared about his staff.
Cheers, Glen. We'll always remember you.
