new job!! aaaahhhh!!
so I've been hoping and waiting to hear about this job for a few months...
I got a call, got an interview and was hired. it's an amazing opportunity and would be a great headstart to my career. but from what I hear, it's a very challenging position. one person described it as "hellishly busy". I should be squealing with excitement, but instead I'm starting to feel as though I'm not really qualified and scared shitless about fucking it up. : / aaahhhhhhhh!! --Joanne *wishing there was a confidence pill* :( |

You can do it Jo!!! I know the feeling all too well of being in the midst of your school/building your qualifiations and getting a job that you fit on paper, but you think about it and whoa you're so not ready. But y'know what? YOU ARE. You can do it, and it will be an amazing experience for you to get going in your career. There's always more to learn, but you've already got some amazing knowledge and personal attirbutes to offer. GO TEAM JO!!! =)

this unit has a high patient acuity, just being a little less sicker than those who are in critical care units. they also deal with a lot of code blues (cardiac arrests). and I'm scared shitless because I've never dealt with a code blue situation! :O even the lady who interviewed me told me that with my medical and surgical experience, there is still going to be a LOT for me to learn at this job. experience-wise, I know that I will learn tons... I just hope I can survive!! --Joanne :P PS unfortunately, beer will only make the situation worse. :( |

you'll do great.
and gain lots of experience. you'll pretty much be guaranteed a full-time job when you graduate, too. one of the girl at UBC got a full time job on T4 a week after she graduated. best of luck joanned, you can do it. and just ask for help when you can't. that's what the nurse educators, new RNs and senior RNs are there for. =) |
