What a day...*sigh*
Today has got to be the worst day in a LONG LONG time...
First off...My teacher for 2nd mnth of Culinary Arts having him just 1 day before and THANK GOD he's only my teacher for this week cause our ORIGINAL one is on vacation...Calls me "tiny" and "a prick" :( I was preparing tuna right for tuna sandwich...He comes by and says it's to moist and to add more tuna...So I did...He comes by later on and I was across the room so he goes "Hey tiny, good job" I was like...Uh what did he say? When I asked people they were like "tiny" Then after I had done everything and wanted to see if it was good enough to be made to sell and wanted him to try it he goes "Your gonna make me try this aren't you you prick" *sigh* :( Just puts in a dambper in things when I was having fun in mnth 1 and not this kinda dampers my confidence...Like can I hack this shit? Like wtf? He was the last person I expected to hear stuff like that come from...Either he's JOKING or not...It's still not very professional of him. He called some other guy a prick too cause he fucked up on his platting. You have to hear what this guy says to believe it! I've heard him use the words "dawg and bro" as if he was a freakin teen our OUR age. AFTER all that...When I leave for school I find that I fuckin loose my wallet :( Lossed everything I had in it...Drivers license/SIN card/BC Care Card/Bank card/etc etc...Just a hassle of getting it all back and a waste of $$ especially when I'm super tight with cash now cause of school :( |

sounds like he is a jerkoff.. he has no right to say those things to you... you could file a complaint and get him in shit.... or throw a tuna sandwhich at him and say " hows that for moist"!!! thats what i would do.. but ide think of something better to say when i throw it

It's not very proffesional of him at all! But if it's at all possible, take it with a grain of salt. Critisicm such as that should be used to try and strengthen you.
As far as the wallet goes... that just down right sucks. Had it happen to me before. It's not a comfortable feeling at all. You really don't know how much of your life you have in that little thing untill you lose it. |

sounds like it's just the way the guy is, and despite the fact that it's unprofessional, don't take it personally. like you said, he talks like that and called someone else a prick too. don't let it get to you. maybe call him a prick back or come up with a nickname for him, heh.

I worked in a restaurant when i was in highschool....all the chefs had red seals. They all swore at people , made unproffesional comments and were rude. If you want to work in a kitchen , get used to it. Maybe stand up for yourself and tell him off.

Roll with the punches and show him what you are made of.
I had a senior director throw jabs at me everytime I had to see him when I worked for the Ministry of Finance. My nickname was "Spike" and he's always comment about my coloured haired and shirts. I just went with it, made a joke out of it and he got a laugh and away we go. Fight it and you'll lose. Roll with the punch and you'll be in a better position afterwards. After a while it becomes second nature. After a few months his staff commented that he is that way to me bacause he doesn't have the guts to be as radical as I am. So that's his way of trying to knock me down. Just some things for you to think about. |

At the workplace, one of my staff members started swearing on the sales floor and I was shocked and began to make a comment about it... only until I found out that one of the customers that he went out of his way to help made an inappropriate racial comment towards him. In this case, I wouldn't tell him to just SUCK IT UP and ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES and that he NEEDS TO DEVELOP A THICKER SKIN. Point is, I would never know what it was like for him to have experienced this situaiton because I am not him, and I can't begin to prentend to know what it's like to have been in his shoes, and it would have been highly inappropriate of me to underestimate the level of anger and frustration that it made my staff member feel. Peter's instructor is supposed to be a leader, a role model, and a "professional", and he needs to be made aware of the fact that some of the things he says can be very hurtful to some people. It's easy for people to tell someone to just "roll with the punches" but for some people, certain comments can be a very very personal thing. Just because something is the way it is, doesn't mean it has to continue to be that way and that everyone has to accept the "way things are". |

Racism I do not tolerate.
However when you are getting poked to see if someone can push your buttons just exactly what are you going to do Yoko? If the comments are so vague that they can't be pointed out as they could have been directed at anyone it is going to be hard to fight. I've been in enough situations to look a little further at the situation at hand and map out a plan to succeed. If I skipped 10 steps of the process then I apologize for doing so. I believe if I were in Peter's shoes this situation can be viewed and used in many ways to help fuel his fire to succeed. Prove to the instrcutor that he is talented and deserves to be there as much as anyone. I've been a solo "ethnic" student in classes when I went to school and back then people were much less tolerant of minorities than they are now. |

when i worked in the kitchen one guy tried to run shit with me so i told him he could go suck my cock. then he got upset and told me i wouldn't wanna talk to him like that. so i said what the fuck are you gonna do about it? stupid bitch. so then it escalated to the point where he got changed and started charging out the kitchen with his bag. so i said yeah go run off like a lil bitch. so he turns around and throws his bag on the ground and says yeah you wanna go motherfucker? so i was ready to do some stomping but then the servers ran in there and pulled him back. then my dad comes in wondering what the fuck was going on... but yeah shit happens in the kitchen. haha don't expect the most plurry atmosphere and you should never take that shit either. sometimes you just gotta take control by letting it out!

Most institutions have harassment policies as does SFU, and it is within a students' right to learn in a non-threatening environment. |

I don't consider "Prick" and "Tiny" racial as they can be applied to anyone. It's verbal abuse at best.
Then I suggest he file a complaint at the school if he doesn't want to put up with the verbal abuse than come here looking for some "compassion". I don't care for the trait of passive aggressiveness in people. But be warned if the complaint isn't followed through with that it just makes the situation and environment he is in worse. So in essence get a spine and do something about it. If one doesn't have the intestinal fourtitude to speak up then they better learn how to swallow the crap thrown their way and "accept it" for what it is. |

you know what....
i'm surprised i'm the first to say this... but if this has been the worst day in your life in a long time... You lead a very happy life I must say... As for the situation. The guy is a dumbass and you should kick him |

I just wanted to point out to Peter that the world out there isn't a wonderful cheery place that people think it is.
Teachers teach they way they do. If they sucked at it then they wouldn't be in teaching there would they? Unless a bunch of students decided to suck up the crap they spewed out and never complained and that is their failure. Everyone teacher has their own style of instruction. I spoke up in class in high school when I wasn't supposed to and the teacher then coined me "Loudmouth WInston" when he addressed me. That tag stuck for 3 years as he was the only instructor for the class I had. As abusive and difficult as he was in the end he explained his method of madness when I graduated. Anyway, first he had issues with the institution making him remove his piercings. Now he has issues with this instructor. As he spoken to anyone as the school about these issues? Come here for a bit of compassion sure, but coming here to vent your anger then going back to class hoping it won't happen again, which it will, is futile. I'm hoping he understands the opinions and options that I and fellow members provide and he selects a course of action that will hopefully solve this issue he faces. If he doesn't I'll expect a similar type thread within a months time about something else that happened at school. |

He never said anything about going back to class hoping that it won't happen again Winston. In fact, he hasn't responded at all since his first post and for either of us to assume more than we know would be silly. To me, it sounds like his post is just a vent about a bad day in general. |
