man, do i ever know what you're talking about.
i stopped smoking weed about two years ago because it really increased my anxiety. lately i haven't really been dealing with it, but more running away from it. which is not the best thing to do, as i find that anxiety just increases the longer you run away from the source. i suppose i'm going to have to face the music eventually. best of luck. |

in the past two years i just learned what anxiety feels like, its no bloody picnic. for me to avoid the anxiety i get, i literally have to express myself more - be sad or angry or upset right away. its like my body wont hold emotions in anymore - if i try, i start to have a little tiny anxiety attack. the first time i had one i was driving - totally not cool at all.
i've never had a severe one and usually have been able to slow myself down and breathe - pulling from yoga. |

^^ Ativan is bad. You can get addicted to that shit. A Buddy used to get alcohol induced anxiety after a long day of binge drinking and the dr prescribed him ativan, he was doing that and drinking and then ativan stopped working so they moved him up to clorazepam.
Point is, it's better to fix anxiety naturally instead of through prescription drugs. When i used to get anxiety i found that exercise, eating healthy, practicing breathing techniques, meditation, incenses etc can all greatly reduce anxiety. |

asses what is making you feel not in control of your life, knowing is half the battle.
i only really ever feel anxious when for some reason or another, i feel like there is something that is out of my control, you need to learn to handle or accept it once you realize what it is...though what works for someone may not work for another because different things make us anxious. Figuring out why can be totally helpful in most cases, though. |

ya drugs are not the answer to anxiety whatsoever.
For actual panic/anxiety attacks i find that drinking a couple glasses of water or a pot of tea sorta helps. and Deep breaths. Also i find if i can start busying myself with chores or a long walk it helps with those times too. Personally, I still use cigarettes and pot to deal with it tho. |

hmmm. what myra said however it's not always that easy.
there is some high statistic about most people suffering from anxiety. if you feel that it's actually affecting your life I would try talking to your doctor. it comes and goes, it can always be in result of many things in your life. drugs, alcohol, caffeine, stress, change etc., as well it could also be completely a mental thing, or something a simple as a magnesium deficiency I was diagnosed with panic disorder about 1.5 years ago, which let me tell you is not a walk in the park. however, it was partly my own fault for not doing something about earlier and allowing it to take over my life. defiantly take this book out of the library and give it a good read. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157...lance&n=283155 |

a small dose of celexa prescribed by my doctor and also try to stay away from caffeine and chocolate and things that may trigger you being axious. Staying active I find really helps relax my body and keeps the oxygen and blood flowing through my brain. I've had anxiety for the last 6 years.... and these are a few things that have helped me along the way.
I hope that you feel better hun <3 |

i've seen that book a few times i bought the depression workbook and haven't really done anything past the first few pages i'll probably start seeing my doctor more regularly. oddly enough he works in an anxiety disorders clinic, but we never discuss anxiety it's kind of a new thing i'm less angry all the time, but more anxious kind of like i've traded one issue for another, if that makes any sense Last edited by diva; Jan 03, 06 at 07:43 PM. |

Exercise, eat right, take your vitamins. You should also check out some herbal remidies. There are a ton of them out there. I can say from experience that meds might not be the way to go. I found the did more harm then good in the end. All a shrink is going to do is prescibe the latest and greatest med. An idiot could prescribe this shit.
good luck=) |

for me anxiety and depression related to boredom... I used to go though big depressions in the summer when school was out because I didn't have anything to do other than to think about negative things, and I only had a few friends so I couldn't always call someone up to talk to... as soon as I was busy I was fine... when I graduated I went into the same pit for a while but a lot of soulsearching was done to make peace with my problems...
so for me I just try not to get bored... and if thats not the problem, I go for a long contemplative walk to massage the brain... |

try going to an asian doctor. i went to a mongolian one once, gave me these lil herbal pills, WOW they make the stress go away. always try a natural alternative. it wont drain the goods from your body or make you dependent on it. |

no a shrink isn't always going to perscribe meds. they do help people, i had both positive and negative experience with them.
there are deffinatly many ways, also you make it sound like it's so easy to just "get rid off" nothing made me more mad then the people who just said to me "dont have them" like i had some sorta choice or switch that could be turned off and on |

surprised that no one, including myself before, didn't mention music (sorry if someone did and I'm just blind)... music has probably played the biggest role in helping me deal with whatever negative stuff I'm feeling, whether listening to it or writing it... and almost any kind of song has its role in a healing process... sad songs, happy songs, mellow songs, heavy songs, even mind numbing pop songs...

one of the things that helps me cope the most with feelings of anxiety and insecurity and all around craziness is writing in my journal. it's like cheryl said about the letting out the feelings as you have them...i'm not one to cry or scream in public, but i will write out everything i'm feeling and that helps a lot of the time.

Take everyones advice with a grain of salt, especially posts revolving around medication. Ive been using paxil for several years, and im seriouslly pondering the fastest, least painful way to get of them.
I dont really think you can go wrong with the "naturalistic" or "holistic" approaches. Sometimes we try everything, except what we actaully are lacking, and for some strange reason these habits are the hardest to adopt. Excercise, real relaxation techniques, breathing, stress management etc etc/ In times of massive subversive advetising, globalization, propaganda, a failing earth, and war and famine across the globe, i think a little anxiety is appropriate - you are human afterall. |

got adhd?
dont take synthetic drugs, they often cause more problems then they fix.I suggest taking some natural remedies, hit up a naturopath or maybe a health food store. My niece is taking omega 3 oils for her behaviourial issues/anxiety,and my sis is taking some other thing for her anxiety.Ill have to ask my mom what the name of it is but its some natural supplement which balances the chems in your brain. |

It's always best to try all the natural ways to deal BEFORE going on medication. Esi, about a month before xmas my doctor diagnosed me w/ anxiety disorder. I was all annoyed by it, but then I realized how much sense it makes. You know, the headaches, constantly not being able to sleep at night, overworking myself, etc.. He told me to buy Stress Management for Dummies - Grady bought it for me for xmas and it's really helped a lot. It just teaches you simple ways to relax and think on the positive side! Give it a read :) |
