Mr ppcock, I told you you should have come to one of our shows. tsk tsk Lindsey, I've been burlesque dancing for almost two years now.. but the funny thing is I cant really tell you HOW I got into it, I kind of fell into it. Entered an audition for an established troupe, won... and things have gone peachy since then. Its not always that easy though. If you're really serious me and my troupe are putting together a "becoming burlesque" workshop for all the girls that keep asking us how to get started. We cover all the basics, a little bit of history, how to look the part, even a technical class about what to ask for for lighting and such, developing your character and we're ending it with a big show. You can do a solo act as well as a group number that will be worked on during the course. Most other courses try to teach you HOW to dance burlesque when thats really up to you, we just teach you how to get started, how a show happens, how to look the part, how to conquer stage fright etc. I'll be teaching tassle twirling, makeup and maybe some costuming. It only cost $ 200 for 6 weeks, a party or two and a big show in the end. I think its really neat because we arent doing it for the money, we're doing it for all the girls out there who are really serious about getting into burlesque but aren't lucky as us to just fall into it (plus we'll tell you all the tips we learned the hard way haha) and you'll have a group of girls to grow with and learn from... not only the newbies but girls that have been doing this for a while and want to share. we also have one of the biggest networks in the vancouver burlesque scene so successfull and serious dancers will have an opportunity to meet and possibly perform with the other troupes in the city lasses Start Tuesday 18th- Introduction to burlesque by the Taboo Review. Tuesday 25th- Movement with Little Woo and Evil Chevelle May 2006 Tuesday 2nd- Looking the part with Melody Mangler, Camero Luvroc and Little Sheri. Tuesday 9th- Stage fright with Sasha and special Guests. Tuesday 16th- Technical class with Dentor, Kristie Elmore and Evil Bastard. Tuesday 23rd- Professionals class hosted by Crystal Precious, Mya Mayhem and Norm Elmore. Tuesday 30th- Dress Rehearsal followed by a dress-up promo karaoke party! Everyone’s invited! June 2006 – the big show! get in touch with [email protected] if you are interested. |

Joanne, when me and my girls started doing full out group dance routines, and had to practice them every week we started to get a bit of a workout and lost a bit of weight. BUt I wouldn't go into it if you are looking for a workout, unless you are going to do routines full of belly dancing, or major bump and grinding (the good kind... not the club kind :P) or "real" dance. And practice or perform all the time... and saty away from the booze and energy drinks that tend to fuel alot of burlesque dancers when they are performing alot :P
you can always check out burlesque yoga at www.littlewoo.com I'm going into belly dancing and tap dancing so I can not only widen my dance skills but get a workout doing those. Belly dancing tones muscles I didnt even know I had (and is sexy as hell) and tap dancer sure does a number on you legs and butt and its super fun. I found both of these at the rec center. don't waste your energy "trying to be nice" cubed... it doesnt really matter what you spew because it was many moons ago that you began sounding like charlie browns teacher to me. I think I'm gonna stick to my pole dancing. the studio that I'm a member of recently started offering belly dancing classes and an 'mtv choreography' class so I'm getting more a variety.
plus, I can now do all of these moves and more! http://www.victoriapoledancing.com/p...?home52=Photos :D |

how much of a workout do you get from pole dancing? I'm assuming quite a bit. I'm thinking of looking into that but I somehow feel like I'd be a traitor of my burlesque community haha, at least if I did it in public.... as cool as it may be its part of a stigma we try hard to seperate ourselves from. (Im totally not looking down on it or you for doing it... but, you know)
That, and my wrists are right fucked up, I think I should stick to belly dancing :) Not to mention, learning how to pole dance would no be given justice unless I had a pole in my room, I'd probably end up wasting way too much money on one because I HAD to have it. and fucked wrists would be BAAAD for pole dancing (at least when you get to the upper levels) because many girls with normal wrists complain of having sore wrists once they start learning certain pole holds and spins. I didn't know there was such a divide between pole dancers and burlesque dancers. this reminds me of when one of my instructors performed at the sex show. she commented on one of the burlesque dancers saying they did awesome. one of them replied in a snooty tone "well, that's because we don't pole dance!" this explains so much! its a bit off topic but:
those interested in a dance genre thats fucking wicked for cardio should get into latin dancing of any kind.cha cha,cumbia,merengue,tango,salsa...theres so many, and alot funner then tap...and alot more strenuous too.Tap does tone your legs a bit,but nothing in comparison to latin dancing, take it from me I was in tap and have done latin dancing for years. just a lil heads up. |
