"man" -- "Woman"
This subject was started when I heard Korn's "Alone I brake"
"I have lived the best I can-does this make me not a man" -jon davis Why does the word "man" mean so much? when I talk about my boyfriend in a fun context its normally "my boy" or in a fight "your just a boy".. but when I need him In a serious situation its "my man" being "manly" seems to be important to others. even thos its just a change of words. I'm normally "girl" because i'm still young looking because of my small size. But sometimes I get called "woman" and it changes how I feel about myself for that moment. why do you think the change of wording is so important? |

Hard to put it exactly, but words hold a lot of power; especially when they're associated with a status level or a certain position and/or office.
I think that in a way being a "Man" or a "woman" is , on some level, similar to being a "Duke" or a "Baron". (or maybe a Dutchess or baroness) |

thats a good way of looking at it! I was also thinking yesterday how my little sister started to put genders on things... she knows "him-hers-hes-shes-his-her" its very confusing when you sit and really think about it. |

well for young people in their 20s
we can still refer to ourselves as either man or boy (or woman or girl), because we kinda are still both. after around 30 i think thats the cut off point, by then yer either a man, or a man-child. not a boy. and i always found older ladies usually never minded when i referd to em as "girls" cuz it makes em feel younger i guess? I dont think that goes the same for men. Last edited by -evil-duerr-; May 08, 06 at 01:55 PM. |

when you refer to people as men and women the connontation thats associated with those words are that of power, stability, maturity, prowess, and decisiveness....to name a few.
when you refer to people as boys or girls the connontation thats associated with those words are that of tenderness, youth, arrogance, naieve, basica lly lesser then. if you look in the dictionary for the meaning of boy/girl man/woman the definition clearly states:a girl child etc etc. |
