monthly menstruation during our childbearing years isn't as natural as you might think. the average North American woman gets way more periods (like 350 more) in her lifetime than women living in the 1800s did (or women living in developing countries, for that matter). in the 19th century, the average woman had 50 menstrual cycles in her lifetime, now we have more than 400 here's a link http://www.macleans.ca/topstories/he..._117621_117621 |

^^ i had no choice but the shot ....until now with the minera thing due to strokes and such in my family ... i wouldnt say no.. but its important to be aware of potential side effects... and bone density loss is a common one and there are too many studies/findings to ignore in my opinion...
youre right though avana... each lady reacts differently so talk to the doc.. it doesnt necessarily hurt to share experiences though.. |

On the pill, I was a menace, I did nothing but cry and bleed all the time. The weight gain was horrendous, and do you think I could remember to take the fucking thing?! The shot has been so easy for me. After the studies started coming out, I started asking questions to my doctor, if he doesn't see a problem, then why should I? |

krista: just because you had a negative experience on depo, doesn't mean everyone else does or will. it's important to talk to you doctor to figure out the best method of contraception for you.
that being said, i had a horrible experience in the shot as well. =P i haven't been on a hormonal form of contraception for going on two years now and don't think i'd ever go back to being on the pill or shot or patch or anything that pumps synthetic hormones into me for prolonged lengths of time. that's just my personal preference, though. i had a friend who was on the shot for six years straight and didn't have any problems on it whatsoever. |

You are going to hear all this and all that about the Depo and how it is so bad. And if you talk to many girls so many will say the bad things on the pill, but you can switch pills easy and find whats right for you. It all depends on your body, yes take a calcium pill and your fine.
I did NOT gain weight on the Depo shot, I did not bleed all the time and have mood swings. It is deiiferent for everygirl. Although I was on the shot when i got pregnant, although it is rare same with on the pill, i have met 2 people who ot pregnant on the pill but thats easier because people forget. I would not discourage the shot nor recomend it, it is way to different for every person. |

^^^ im just giving my opinion that i dont think the depo is a good thing, its great that its working for avana, i thinks shes the ONLY person out of tons that i've talked to who has had a positive experience on it. im surprised, everyone else i talk to has shared similar experiences as me.

no worries, i only know that because women's sexual health and maternity are my passion and i'm pretty into learning about anything to do with either of those topics. =) women only used to get one or two periods a year because they were either always pregnant or breastfeeding. they also tended to get their periods later on in life (like 16) instead of at 10 like they do now. some people hypothesize that it's because of all the hormones we're exposed to in the foods that we eat. |

thats good in theory if we're just talking about taking birth control to prevent babies but its very helpful in other aspects of the female body for example, tons of girls take it to regulate their periods, or help ease the pain and other symptoms of excruciating periods |

Sometimes people scare the shit out of me. I'm more worried about catching something from someone else then knocking them up. People have been having babies before the beginning of time. There's always options (72hourpill/man up/abort/adopt/etc). Nailing a chick without a condom isn't even a guaranteed dinner roll. Catch something like herpes or the hiv though and you're fucked for life. There's no cure for that shit. |

;P ON TOPIC..I would agree that Avana's/Diva's advice to consult your doctor is your best option..but my personal opinion of the shot..is shit. =D |
