Writers Block
I currently have a bad case of writers block.
I have a 2250 word essay that was due on tuesday. 2250 words is pebbles for any third year+ student. It's usually pebbles for me. However, I'm still not done. It's a third of a grade per day, which means if I hand it in tomorrow it will be a full grade docked from my paper. Three seperate times I have started writing and gotten to about 600~ words, only to stall and come to nothing. I can't finish, and I don't know why. Rather than post in the punching bag, I thought I would come here. I almost don't care about my mark anymore. I just want this thing done! It's the last paper for the term. For all you writers here, what do you do when you have a bad case of writers block? |

I usually just force something out.
Often, when I get stuck, it's because I can't figure out a way to tie two thoughts together, and will get frustrated if I can't; I've got point A, and a point C, but hell if I can figure out how I can make point B (for Bridge!) fit into it. However, if I find I'm dwelling on it for too long, I'll just say "fuck it" and carry on with my next line of thought just to keep going, then go back and see how I can tie it together when I edit. Often it'll come to me that way, as sometimes I fall into the trap of thinking ahead too much. Dunno if this'll help though. After all, everyone approaches writing from different angles. |

Your mind has already gone to "School's over" mode and you're having trouble staying motivated? Been there. Maybe you just need to clear your mind.. Take a quick break from things, take a nap, go for a quick jog. Sometimes immersing yourself in one subject for too long isn't always a good thing for creativity. Maybe you just need some time to rejunvenate. What's you essay on? |

1. you could repeat yourself and claim you have some odd form of terrets, but i know im in college and its a bitch cause they pay attention to every little damn thing.
When i come to writers block i usually just give it time and feel that it will come to me when im ready, but in this case you don't have time, so maybe just educate yourself more on what the essay is about its always easyier to write about things when you understand and know the just of it more, either that or you could add more information without making it seem like its linguring on to long, like add some stuff to make it seem like you've enjoyed the essay topic and that you've learned , thats what i usually do and my instructors always give good opinions. |

^^ Definately, i'm guilty of this sometimes. Especially in a formal term paper crippling your ideas with adjectives and adverbs can take away from how concise it is.
When i need to get in the mood to write something i usually just cut myself off from everything and do some reading and thinking. I just start a train of thought and focus on following it top to bottom. Things just flow together after that usually. |

I remember having to write this essay on whether one could "KNOW THAT P, WITHOUT BELIEVING THAT P". After a while of trying to form an argument I started to forget whether my argument even made sense, or even what my argument was to begin wtih. :-< |
