im working door at reefer madness and i heard a group of little 14 year old girls talking about it im id'ing them personally i hate 14 year olds. |

its rather ignorant to say 'i hate 14 year olds'
nowhere on any of the promo for reefer madness does it say 16+ and why cant 14 year olds be at the same party as you? just so you dont have to see them and feel old? a negative experience in their younger years could turn someone or a group of people away from raving in the future, and who knows, maybe if they had kept attending parties they would have become a dj or promoter and helped the scene going, in a few years from now. the youngins are the future, and i know it kinda sucks being surrounded by kids when youre trying to jam but i also dont feel its right to disclude younger rave music enthusiasts, nor make statements like 'i hate 14 year olds' they could be into kiddie pop, but theyre not, they want to check out some real music, some good music, and you want to deny them of that? i apologize for the rant, and i understand where jeff is coming from (again, he has given full notice, with 16+ appearing on both the flyer and the poster), as im talking more about the comments above regarding the reefer madness party. to the person asking about being ID'd, oftentimes in this case, 16+ will be put on the flyer to dissuade people younger from that showing up, with ID not usually actually being checked at the door, such is my experience anyway. |

i do agree with you, but the kids in question who i am personally id'ing, are the type of kids who think "rave? ooh lets get fucked up" they think going to raves just means doing drugs. and i hate them, cause they have absolutley no appreciation for raving.
but, my 'I hate 14 year olds' comment was a bit ignorant. so i'll just say, i hate immature 14 year olds. |

the first time i ever went to a rave, it was to do drugs.
granted i was 18 at the time, but i still wasn't going to hear the music, i was going to party with my friends, do drugs, and have fun. it was a hardhouse party, with a second room that spanned all genres. i saw marcus visionary play in that room and was immediately hooked on drum'n'bass. so even though i had intended to come and do drugs, i found my niche, and now i spin drum'n'bass and contribute to the scene, or so i'd like to think. i just don't get why you're trying to exclude these people, the only thing i can think of is that they're too young to handle their drugs, but i don't see how could be absolutely SURE that this ONE GROUP of 14 yr old girls will all OD by the end of the night. |

well, first of all, I hope that no one OD's at my party. That being said, I really don't care if younger people want to come to my party. I would hope that they wouldn't be coming just for the drugs, but either way, I'm 28, what's the difference to me between someone who is 15 and someone who 16?! You're all kids to me, no offense, (if I wasn't 28, I'd still consider myself a kid :p) but.. I bet some of the kids look at me and think wtf is that old dude here for. So heck, they have to put up with me, and I have to put up with them, and really I don't even look at it that way, I have friends of all ages!! Age is just a number, maturity is the key. And the scene totally needs to be in a cycle, so that when older people leave it, new, younger people take their place. PLUR.
I remember when I first started partying, I was 14 and older people addopted me and introduced me to everyone, it was sweet and I instantly felt like I belonged. If you want to help grow the scene that's what needs to start happening again. Older people looking out for younger people. One Scene, One Love. Get it?! And thanks Jake, you know where it's at. Peace brotha!! |

granted. you guys have made good points
and i do agree, the scene needs some fresh faces i just know a couple of the people who come, and they have not learned to handle themselves yet. i am not being unfair, hell, im barely older than them i just find that we don't need all that heat. ive seen some rough shit go down at parties because people cannot handle themselves. but, i am going to leave it be. and i dont really want to argue we all have our own belief system. and i personally am not going to contradict anyones. |

no worries Jamie, I hear what you're saying also, and I can't stand seeing people all fucked up to the point that they can barely stand, let alone walk. But you know as well as I do that that has little to do with age, some people just like to endulge more then others. So really, it's up to everyone to look out for everyone, regardless of age, cause sometimes it's the older party kids who act the most reckless, cause they think they can handle their drugs cause they've done them before, or whatever. I guess everyone just needs to be safe, drink lots of water, look out for your friends, but look out for strangers too if they look like they need help.
Anyway, back to more positive talk, no more of this. :p |
