$110 is the cost last year (i think early-bird were around $80) - they haven't annouced ticket prices this year.
I've heard the cost might go up a bit this year due to the headliners they're bringing in so it could be as much as $120ish. Still worth every penny as far as I'm concerned... |

On comparing Soundwave with Shambhala...
They're different parties with different vibes. I'd say Soundwave is more akin to Shambhala like 5 or 6 years ago (not that i went, but I know people who did) where it's a smaller amount of people, more of an "in-the-know" crowd, and less commercialization. For strict location, although Salmo is gorgeous, Mussel Beach wins hands-down as far as being one of the most beautiful locations for camping (that and you don't have to worry about stepping on dried cow-pie :)) Stagewise and talent-wise, there's a ton more money going into Shambles and while the stages at Soundwave are impressive, they pale in comparison (in both size and setup) to Shambles. There are also less big-name artists at Soundwave too although this year (at least the Stylus Stage so far) looks to be upping the ante for international talent - but you'll definitely see some of the best talent the west coast and canada in general have to offer... I'd say Shambles has much more of a "rave" feel to it - especially with the kind of headliner acts they book (albeit a breaks rave) whereas Soundwave has more of a beach party feel to it. Both are worth going to at least once - personally, I prefer the chiller vibe of soundwave. I went to Shambles last year and it was too big, too packed, and just too crazy for my tastes nowadays. That and the 5 hours of breaks on 5 stages simultaneously on saturday *really* turned me off... |

Have you been to Diversity Festival? If so how does it compare to Soundwave? |

me and wood ran a stage 2 years ago at diversity and wood did one last year (stupid wedding kept me from going)... Texada is fucking amazing - especially if you go to the Quarry (not on the party site but like a 10 minute drive) - it's an old rock quarry that hit a natural underground spring and got flooded. one of the mose beautiful locations ever...
As far as Diversity, if you're into trance and hippies, it's pretty cool. Great site and all... Personally, i hate trance and from what i understood of last year's party, other than the Boomtown stage, the music was anything but "diverse" still they may switch it up this year who knows? It's also a lot smaller than either soundwave i think they have maybe 700-1000 people each year - if you want natural beauty, don't mind hippie trance, diversity is a fun party just for the location... just don't expect too many "name" DJs on the bill. From everything i've seen it's got a very sunshine coast party vibe (lotta hippies, spirituality, and trance... lots of trance...) |

The bands last year (namely Wassabi Collective and whoever played after them) made the nights for me, and Ill definitely admit to Trancing around a wee bit too. Boomtown was bangin whenever we made it up there, but it was too far hidden away from everything else. Actually my fondest memory of last year was eating a large number of mushrooms one morning and spending the entire day launching each other in the air with a huge log see-saw, building rock sculptures and lying on the beach with rocks on our foreheads. Zen as fuck. ANYWAYS, thanks for the response. I'm not giving up the quarry and ocean view and Shambles is too much of a group tradition, but Soundwave definitely sounds like it should be in the cards too. Damn. |
