Japanese Bands coming to Vancouver

A friend of mine is sponsoring four upcoming japanese indie bands to make the long trek over to Vancouver. A few months ago in May, he brought 5 bands over and it was loving insane, so I'm going to try to pay it forward and promote this silly thing. With X Japan coming to Vancouver around the same week, it might be a bit of a dilemma(hahaha) but if you like the bands then come check it out, it's going to be at the Biltmore in Van on Oct.14. Tickets are pretty cheap at 12$ in advance and 15$ at the door.

Mass of the Fermenting Dregs are a mish-mash of driving punk rhythms and shoegaze sensibilities. They recently have had a major label debut album come out and they've played at the fuji rock festival, so one could say these gals(and a guy drummer) are the headliners of this mini tour.

Sgt play some driven post rock with a violin and a saxophone with classical and jazz influences. Much in the vein of other japanese post rock bands, there is less emphasis on build up in the form of ambient wankery, but the climaxes are still strong and tense. Stylus Fantasticus and Capital of Gravity has received considerable attention from the western blogosphere.

Uhnellys are a duo comprised of an mc and a drummer. With a decidedly hands on approach in hip hop with heavy use of looping pedals, their technical ability is never in doubt. The most amazing thing is the sheer noise these guys can make with two people.

susquatch are my personal favorites of the line up. While they're not the most technically gifted in the line up or the best live performers, they do have the catchiest repertoire of all four bands. With an emphasis on riffing and interplay, susquatch is a pop punk band with a knack for emotional melodies and harmonies.
