It was a really good show. Motion City Soundtrack opened and they were good. I liked the lead's voice. and the keyboardist was crazy.:)

and Rufio was amazing as always. There was only about 40 people or so in the venue though. It was a VERY intimate show. Which was fine though. The problem was that it was 19+. If it had been all ages the show would have been packed. But I really liked the set up at Sonar for the show.

Nah man, I'm kidding but I still don't know what you're talking about. Early Husker Du and Fugazi is hard as shit... and EMO. Just cuz a band sings about emotional shit means they can't be heavy, hardcore, punk? I'd call that pretty narrowminded. Some emo is weak, but to say that all of it is.... I vote that you're wrong.
i totally agree that any hardcore, punk, or heavy band can sing about emotional shit - without emotion there is really no point to music... maybe im just confused by this whole emo term - maybe somebody just made it up so they didn't have to call themselves a punk band (some people really hate that, I don't know why)... all i really know is that the vast majority of emo i've heard is whinny... and for the record I don't consider early fugazi emo - i don't even think the term had been coined yet then, to me they were (and are) a punk band.

On that note I really havent even heard of 90% of the bands mentioned here either so I don't really even have a clue what you are considering emo - but i did see a pretty good little punk band on wednesday night at Bruise in New West... called "Fred's Fear" from Maple Ridge.

^Actually Fugazi is an emo pioneer. When the term 'emo' was first coined it made reference to hardcore bands that wanted to sing about more than just anarchy and hating the system.

Fugazi, as well as many others, had lyrics dealing with relationships, love, heartbreak etc... thus the term 'emo' was born. Punk bands wanted to expand a bit I guess. As time has worn on the genre has changed to include various forms of punk whether they be more melodic or hardcore. I mean Sunny Day Real Estate was emo too and they weren't really whiney sounding either.

With guys like Dashboard Confessional on the scene who really do come off as whiney I can understand how people hate the genre but there is more to it. I guess now the genre has been subdivided once again into emo and screamo. I think thats BS but whatever.... so if you want to hear some good 'EMO' that is more hardcore check out Boysetsfire, These Arms are Snakes, Alexisonfire, From Autumn to Ashes, Atreyu..... some seriously good punk rock.... that just happens to be emo. :keebler:

^From the sounds of it Mr. Cubed you really don't know enough about the genre to really base a proper opinion. :PartEkid:

What you hear on the radio isn't even a percentile of whats out there.
