(2007.04.28) Thump 2 @ Riverside

After the huge success of last years event, Global Sound, Trust and TAZ are pleased to bring you another installment of THUMP. Only this time on a much larger scale. Known for featuring groundbreaking artists, we have managed to compile an acclaimed list of talent from around the world. All the way from Israel we have DJ Yahel, ranked #28 on the DJ Mag Top 100, making his Western Canada debut. From the UK, Lee Haslam will touch down to destroy the dancefloor once again. For the breakbeat fanatics we’ve called upon one of Canada’s most talked about DJ; Angus Robinson. He will be laying down the heat for those who like to get down n dirty.

*As you all may know this show was originally intended to be at The Riverside Hall... however due to unforseen problems with the venue and the city of Richmond, this party has been moved to the Maritime Labor Centre to avoid further complications. We advise you to purchase tickets well in advance as this show will sell out quicker due to the smaller capacity!!

ROOM1-TRANCE, HARD DANCE

DJ YAHEL
DJ YAHEL
Coast II Coast Agency/Israel

The number 28 DJ in the World as voted by his fans, Yahel is a versatile artist with influences and techniques ranging throughout the Trance spectrum, Yahel’s music resides in a lush synthesis of Club effects, Deep Trance beats, and psychedelia from the Goa scene. As evident from his newly appointed number on the DJ List Yahel knows just how important his hard work, and fans are in making his career as successful as it has been.
After producing six artist albums, mixing three compilations, and releasing dozens of vinyls. Yahel has estblished himself as one of the most popular and talented producers/Dj’s to have come from the Israeli Electronic scene. The same scene that gave the world groups like Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, and Atomic Pulse. Yahel has bridged all these groups with his music bringing ravers and clubbers together under his musical banner. He has the unique distinction of being a rare artist who has been able to achieve critical and comercial success in the European Club scene.
Yahel is widely respected, and has found success with major labels like Sony/BMG. He has also collaborated with Konami and Namco liscensing his music for a variety of their video games. Recently Yahel’s music took to the air literally as El-Al began offering his DJ set on the in flight entertainment. Some of the other labels he has been involved with are Black Hole, Cyber, Tsunami, and Fundamental (with many more to follow.) His music has also found its way into the records of such notable Djs as; Tiesto, PVD, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and many more. Yahel’s Voyage is considered to be one of Tiestos classic tracks and is a staple in his live sets. Last year Yahel started his own record label For The People Music, and is excited to have signed the winner of the first ever Nokia Music Leader competition Guy Zigdon. We all expect to see great things from him.
Vancouver, please welcome Yahel as he gets set to take control of the dancefloor in his much anticipated DEBUT

LEE HASLAM
Lee Haslam
Monstertunes/Most Wanted/UK

Lee Haslam is one of the hard hitters in uplifting, energy-fuelled trance, having fused the best of cutting edge European trance and his own UK influences into his DJ sets and studio productions to forge a unique combination of driving bass lines and euphoric, roof-raising riffs that have made him a firm fans favourite and one of the most popular and well respected DJ/Producers in UK trance music today.
It was in 2004 that Lee Haslam hit the fast track to the top of the UK trance scene, using the opportunity of a coveted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix to join the dance DJing elite and at the same time dazzling dance fans with his flowing musical style and flawless turntable techniques during a daunting live set to an audience of millions listening around the globe.
The buzz on Lee's Essential Mix was nothing short of phenomenal, and in the months ahead he was selected to mix the 'Resonate 4' album that gave him a further platform from which to showcase his tough trance sounds, with his double CD selection gaining full marks in DJ Magazine and Mixmag praising it as the most forward thinking trance albums of the year.
Lee had long since made his mark in the production world with his best selling 'Music Is The Drug' single hitting the top of the UK dance charts in 2002 and getting licensed onto 15 compilation albums around the globe, and big name remix highlights including Lost Tribe ‘Gamemaster’ and Dumonde ‘Human’.
Moving into 2005 and Lee further cemented his standing at the forefront of UK trance DJ/producers, being selected to mix a disc on the summer edition of the best selling 'Euphoria' series of CDs and also starring on the cover CD on the November issue of M8 Magazine. Lee also secured sets on the Creamfields and Global Gathering festival line-ups, as well as gracing the decks of Slinky, Goodgreef, Gallery, Polysexual, Tall Trees and Dance Academy around the UK, as well as overseas tours of USA, Canada, South Africa and Ibiza where he was also the most frequent guest flown out for the packed out Tidy vs Extreme nights at Es Paradis.
The energy and elevation Lee generates through his seamless DJ sets has also seen him rock dance floors across the globe including the Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Russia, and with further singles and a CD compilation scheduled for release in the months ahead, 2006 looks like being another big year for Lee Haslam in the world of trance.

ROOM2-HOUSE & BREAKBEAT

ANGUS ROBINSON
// AngusRobinson.ca / Toronto

Angus is one of the hardest-working, most active players in the Canadian and International Breaks scene. His successful record label (Money Shot Recordings), his position at the world-renowned Release Records, as well as his long-standing radio show (Money Shot Radio… formerly called Futurized Radio) has garnered him quite an international following, so much so that he was recently voted 38th Best Breaks DJ at the 2004/2005 International Breakbeat Awards (Breakspoll.com).
Angus’ love for making music began at an early age with piano and later on with guitar. As a teenager, he got into electronic music however it wasn’t until 1998 that he put his first needle to record in front of a live crowd while a student at University of Western Ontario, in London, Canada. Since then, it’s taken Angus Robinson a very short time indeed to climb the breakbeat ranks of his hometown of Toronto and, for that matter, all of Canada.
After moving back to Toronto, Angus took a full time position with one of the world’s top record stores, Release Records (www.releaserecords.com), to head up their online ordering platform and assemble their Breaks department. Not to be left behind by the changing technology, Angus recently helped set up the digital downloads section which has been a big hit with both DJs and the non-12”-buying public worldwide. In 2006, Release Records closed its vinyl shop, but the download shop, and new digital promo pool (Welcome to www.releasepromo.com) continue to thrive.
His position at Release Records, radio show, and record label ensures that Angus is always armed to the teeth with the freshest selection of new tunes, Money Shot testers, promos, and CDRs, the likes of which are in very high demand among fellow DJs. His style is hard to pin down, but an underlying element of funk is present in everything he plays.
In his DJing career, Angus has held residencies at The Guvernment, Boa, Turbo, System Soundbar, Limelight, Fever (in Hamilton), Milano's, Lush (in London), Tonic, The Blue Room (in London), Bauhaus and more. He has had the pleasure of playing alongside Meat Katie, Koma & Bones, Krafty Kuts, Jody of Way out West, DJ Hyper, General Midi, Atomic Hooligan, Skool of Thought, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, Evil Nine, Ali B, Simply Jeff, and many more. His talents have earned him gigs all over Canada as well as the USA, Taiwan, and China.
In October 2002, Angus launched Futurized Radio (now called Money Shot Radio) on New York's protonradio.com, and it instantly became a hit amongst Proton's listener base, as well as breakbeat enthusiasts from all over the world. Futurized serves a listener base of over 2000 listeners per week, and has hosted mixes from the world's most groundbreaking DJs, such as Soul of Man, Atomic Hooligan, Fort Knox Five, Future Funk Squad, Freddy Fresh, Elite Force, Dark Globe, Lee Coombs, Plump DJs, and more. Since its inception, Money Shot Radio has been nominated twice for Best Breaks Radio Show at the International Breakbeat Awards (Breakspoll)… however BreaksFM always wins… Bastards!!
In early 2004, Angus set up Money Shot Recordings, an outlet for the funkiest breaks in the business. The label looks set to make a big stir on the international breaks scene, with the imprint’s current output being supported by the likes of Plump DJs, Donald Glaude, Stanton Warriors, Soul of Man, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Crystal Method, Drumattic Twins, and many more. The current Money Shot artist roster consists of Circuit Breaker, Myagi, Steelzawheelz, Drumattic Twins, Atomic Hooligan, Infekto, Boogie Army, and there’s loads more in the works. For more info on this label, check out the website – Money Shot Recordings.
Angus recently outfitted his apartment with a brand new recording studio to put his knowledge of piano and guitar to use. Expect to see some funky-fresh Angus Robinson tunes forthcoming on Money Shot in the not-so-distant future.
