For He was given a load of old rave records with the decks he bought and for the next three years Clipz did little else but shut himself in his room and practice mixing. At 16 he went to music college in Weston-super-Mare, and although he shouldn't have been there because he had no qualifications, his enthusiasm was enough for them to allow him to stay. After two years of perfecting his production skills, Clipz fulfilled his ambition and moved up to London. In the back room of a small flat he started his solo journey of production but was still coming back to Bristol to play in clubs like Powerhouse and BlueMountain. After just a year in 'the big smoke' he came back to the West Country. When he returned to Bristol, Clipz linked up with South London mate, Mechanizm and the pair formed a successful production duo. Quickly snapped up by MC Recordings (GQ's label) Clipz realised another life long ambition - to play in Fabric. Soon his tunes 'Mystic Amen' and 'J-Spot' were being pressed to dubplate by all the big names and Clipz was becoming hot property across the drum and bass scene. Full Cycle showed an interest in 2002 when Roni took Clipz into the studio and they checked out each other's production skills. Clipz reached the end of his contract with Emcee Recordings and so was free to sign to Full Cycle. Having always dreamed about joining the label - Clipz reached his ultimate dream aged 22. The prolific producer already has a discography longer than many and tunes like 'Cocoa' and 'Funk Physics' are already classics. Clipz has always striven to take his music to a new audience and this led him to producing his debut album entitled 'Livin Drumz' which was out in June 2005. Clipz is currently working on album with Die which has already produced gems such as 'Black Doves' and 'Number 1'. In addition to this he has embarked on a project with singer Siobhan Watson and, of course, is DJing around the globe. His releases include: New Generation // Smash featuring Sweetpea Thinking Forward featuring Tali // Vertigo Start Da Car featuring Dynamite MC // Sticky Living Drumz Album (album as a mix) Holdtight featuring Sweetpea // Kung Fu Slippery Slopes // Nasty Breaks featuring Tali Supa Ugly // Funk Physics VIP Cocoa // Jiggy featuring Sweetpea Funk Physics // Saigonkilla Trumpet // Wake Up Call Soundboy // Pitch Em Up Also, Clipz recently released a single called "Download and get down" which was voted single of the month in mixmag. It was also said to be "An absolute dancefloor smasher"by Dj Friction. Friction featured the track on his "next level 2" compilation WITH ANOTHER SPECIAL GUEST FOR THE FIRST TIME TO BE HEARD IN VAN Dj Evol (Chicago, Illinois) www.myspace.com/djevol777 Hailing from ChicagoIllinois, not a place known for its thriving D&B scene, DJ Evol has been representing drum and bass since the tender age of 14. DJing for the last 7 years and producing for 3, DJ Evol is one of the new breed of Stateside drum and bass producers heading our way. DJ Evol first heard drum and bass back in 93, just as the dark days of D&B were kicking in and jump-up was setting the standard. However, in America, the scene was still restricted to the occasional rave and warehouse party. Evol started to explore the genre through mixtapes and the few local DJs who were playing drum and bass. Finding an affinity with the trademark True Playaz jump-up vibe, as well as the sounds of Die, Roni,Krust and Dillinja, little did he know hed one day be signed to Hypes own imprint. The Playaz connection came around indirectly via Keaton, who passed through Chicago on tour. Evol passed on some tunes to him, who, in turn sent them on to Hype. Then, during Hypes visit to Chicago last year, they finally hooked up, swapping more tunes, and the rest, as they say, is history. With releases on a few small, homegrown labels, and residencies on Q101, DJ Evol also has regular slots on Bassdrive radio, and a number of club residencies in the Chicago area. Looking forward, theres more to come from Evol for the Playaz stable. Currently working on a remix of an old Pascal tune from back in the day, his track Hellboy has been tearing up dance floors in recent months and with a Frontline release also in the bag, it seems well be hearing much more from him in coming months. Dont forget to keep and eye out for him in a DJ booth near you soon, as making people dance figures high on his list of priorities.
