ED RUSH AND OPTICAL Both Ed Rush and Optical are the co-heads of a drum and bass record label called Virus Recordings. They both have earned acclaim separately, with Optical engineering tracks on Goldie and Grooverider's albums and releasing some excellent solo tunes on the likes of Prototype, 31, and Metro. Ed Rush also has countless releases, notably on No U-Turn, where he and Nico first emphasized the dark era of drum and bass with the masterpiece album Torque, and Metalheadz. BRYAN G Bryan G has been at the forefront of dance music since the beginning and a crucial influence in the evolution of global drum n bass. From being part of the elite group of pioneering DJs that grew onwards from the Acid House era of the late 80's to first releasing Roni Size's music (on his and Jumpin' Jack Frost's V Recordings label), Bryan Gee has always been at the cutting edge. Today Bryan Gee remains equally committed to pushing drum n bass forward both as a DJ, label manager and promoter. In between a hectic international DJ career, managing V Recordings and co-promoting Movement (the name was coined by Gee), you'll catch Bryan mixing the freshest dubplates at Movement. DJ SS DJ SS played an important role in the early-'90s development of drum'n'bass, releasing a number of formative tracks beginning in 1990 on his co-owned Formation label before returning in the mid-'90s with a plethora of productions after a brief sabbatical. Born Leroy Small in Leicester, England, SS's involvement in the drum'n'bass scene predates its development, back in the days of hardcore. In the early '90s when hardcore began to morph into what would become known as drum'n'bass, he released a series of influential tracks on Formation, including "Breakbeat Pressure," one of the style's early classics. However, once drum'n'bass traded its hardcore roots for a more ragga-inflected sound around 1993, SS retired from production, not being interested in the ragga sound. He focused his efforts during this period on other labels that he ran. He returned to drum'n'bass a few years later, though, in a big way. Throughout the late '90s he released several records on different labels under a number of monikers (Keen, Tekniq), becoming one of the more recognized producers in the U.K. drum'n'bass scene. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide MC TALI At the beginning of 2001, Tali moved to Melbourne, Australia and continued MC'ing for various promotion companies alongside artists like LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, Bryan Gee, Ed Rush and Optical. Tali has established herself as Australia's only female MC, touring to Singapore and sealing various dates in New Zealand and Australia. It was while in Australia that MC Tali met Roni Size at the Reprazent concert. Tali took this chance opportunity to sing in his ear, and impressed him so much, he took Dynamite off the mic and let Tali take over and show her skills to a strong Melbourne crowd alongside DJ Die. Tali already had her sights set on establishing herself in the UK and in June 2001 this dream became a reality through new Full Cycle connections - MC'ing first at Fabric in London for Krust and Die, then being invited to work with the collective in Bristol. Tali best describes herself as a vocalist, as her unique style of MC'ing incorporates not only rhyming but soulful melodies as well. MC QUESTION MARK One of the most recognized and beloved voices of the North American drum 'n' bass scene, MC Question Mark is one of the original driving force of the still-growing sound on these shores. GREENLAW Greenlaw can be a solid funky duo or a massively smooth 4-6 piece live band. No matter the lineup Greenlaw always keeps heads bumpin' and faces Greenlaw is paving the way for their much anticipated debut album with Formation Records that is due for International release in fall of 2008. Greenlaw's earthy soul sound is a new direction for the UK based DnB label. Front woman Skyla J comes with powerful thought provoking lyrics presented with an angelic molasses like voice that has been compared to an early Jill Scott meets India Irie by UK's F magazine. Winners of the "most memorable show of 2004" the band released their full length studio album in 2005 entitled Time and Energy that was quickly hailed by CBC Radio 1 as one of the "top albums of 2005". Recently the band has been nominated for an Indy Award in London England. Greenlaw has also been featured at top festivals, showcases and venues throughout North America, Europe and the UK , Montreal Jazz Fest, CNE Urban Music Fest and Winter Music Conference are just to name a few. Coming up they have the Winter Music conference in Miami and an International Tour that will ensure massive amounts of solid fans world wide. After hearing Jonny L’s “Sawtooth LP” he was drawn towards Drum and Bass and never looked back. Shortly after his transition, Dabbler was playing several times a week and became well known in Vancouver for his unique mixing skills and varied style. Since that time, Dabbler has thrown some of Vancouver’s biggest and best Drum and Bass shows, and has played alongside nearly every major name in DnB. He was a resident of Vancouver’s early rave companies, Twisted Productions, and later as a part of Automatic, Canada’s longest running DnB weekly. Through this involvement, Dabbler has played alongside such celebrated international artists as Shy Fx, Pendulum, Dillinja, and Zinc to name only a few. Constant exposure to these artists led to a new desire to create his sound. Finding new inspiration in Reggae and Dub, Dabbler signed his first track “Ali Baba” to Toronto’s quintessential imprint, Hustlin Beats. Around the same time, he finished a bootleg remix with Vancouver’s Pioneer DJ and Producer Pacific, which was quickly scooped by XS Records in the UK. Both his released and unreleased tunes have received support from artists like Visionary, Kenny Ken, Muffler and Benny Page, and have led him to his most recent signing of “Future Riddim” to Marcus Visionary’s Lion Dubs label. With local and international support, Dabbler’s music is increasingly heard and demanded on global dance floors. This recent success can only be seen as a precursor to further international achievements. Last edited by B.Traits; Feb 18, 08 at 10:52 PM. Reason: update |
