Civilization 'DUSTBOWL WANNABE-MASSIVE' Project
dust Pronunciation Key (dst)
n. Fine, dry particles of matter. A cloud of fine, dry particles. Particles of matter regarded as the result of disintegration: fabric that had fallen to dust over the centuries. Earth, especially when regarded as the substance of the grave: “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” (Book of Common Prayer). The surface of the ground. A debased or despised condition. Something of no worth. Chiefly British. Rubbish readied for disposal. Confusion; agitation; commotion: won't go back in until the dust settles. --------------- Well what can I say, this party sucked ass, it was a gong show. Who knew someone that created the original Summerlove, could produce such a pathetic excuse for a 3hr out-of-town wannabe massive party in the middle of DUSTVILLE. Firstly what idiot plans a party the same day against a well known party called Summerlove. If this was held a day after or a weekend before, maybe there would have been more than 1,000 people at this event but the at most it looked like 900+. The area was more than capable of sustaining a crowd of 10,000 people. Arrive to the venue around 9pm, hooked up with some friends and walked inside. Headed over to the fully licensed nightclub/tent by Element Sound Lounge, came face to face with a refrigerated trailer that could have been reversed around. First I hear coming from the main stage was Lady Precise bitching on a microphone about how there were no slip mats or needles on the tables for Czech at 10:30pm. They were playing CD’s in between sets. The main stage didn’t look like they were prepared at all. The organization of this production was FUCKED UP; the lineup was off by an hour, some artists never showed up. Dieselboy was a no show. Timeslot listings weren't displayed. Around midnight the other two stages were shutdown to make way for the Roy Ayers Band, playing some funky jazzy beats, the band rocked but was inappropriate for the time slot. DJ Dimitri of the former Dee-lite group saved my CP experience from turning into a shitfest gong show. The house stage was bumpin with Ali and Kevin Shiu it was disappointing to hear they shut down some of the stages early and timeslots were cut down, very unprofessional for someone to transport themselves 3hours from Vancouver and only play a couple records. There was a third stage with set trees that wasn't used until the end of the night. WTF happened? Overall, the expectations weren't really there, decorations and setups were nice, the hard work and time was duly noted; but organization was lacking, the lineup was pretty messed up, some people didn't show, headliners didn't show. There were more people out in the parking lot / tent city / campsite than inside the party. In and Outs were pretty laxed, get drunk, stoned whatever; outside the gates at your car/campsite then walk in, get searched, then rave, go back to car, get re-fucked, walk back to party. Cops were there, keeping the peace, drunks off the road etc. Makin sure everyone was 100% sober before heading back to Vancouver. Saw some ambulances throughout the night. Dont know any drama on that. Furthermore Civilization Project looked alot like a working filmset than an actual party with it's grand lighting equipment, movie trucks from star trailers to motorhomes, lighting/grip trucks, generators, cable trucks, and the actual film crew dept types running around with equipment with film aks and 2-way radios. As for production quality, 'mickey-mouse production', most indie's actually know how to plan a film schedule. These guys worked extremely hard and poured alot of money to make this 'film production' look like an actual production with the equipment; but one question still lies unanswered... 'where was the camera crew?' All i saw were a bunch of people, CP Staff or public; with mini-digital camera's and news media types like CityPulse. If they wanted to convince Princeton City Hall that it was a film production, then they prolly bought it with the amount film-related equipment onsite. But you see this isn't the first time a party's been passed off as a film shoot. Summerlove in Pemberton; Joely Collins directs/produces 'Summerlove' film. And I bet there are countless others aswell. Ploy? Deception? Bad ethics? Bad planning? Complete Bullshit? You would think someone with this much experience, would clearly know how to pay off the talent before hand. Or make sure to give the ticketholders a party to remember, or just even schedule everything correctly. We all thought this party would be the party to end the summer, We all entrusted the promoter in giving the ticketholders an event to remember, We all hoped that driving 3hours to a small town would be worth the drive. Appearances are deceiving, if the promoter spent more time on the party itself than pumping it further with disappointing factors leading to the day when they realized that shit was already hitting the fan, this would have been a better party. You learn by experience. You say you had 2years to plan this party. What went wrong? Instead of making this party about esthetics, more time should have been allocated to planning instead. Pulling a non-shit/gong show is more important to ticketholders than a bunch of fancy setdesigns and lights. Summer 2002 Parties = GONG SHOW SUMMER We left this dustbowl massive at 7am. Ugh...
Ya I think I was just starting to go to work when you left... mmmmm tear down in big ol dust storm is much MUCH better than "party" in big dust storm.
I agree 100% though... fucking lame ass party. I think the main issue was the fact that it was a movie production. The movie guys and the sound guys kinda had difficulty understanding each others terms. Not too mention the movie people didn't seem to comprehend the whole "get this shit up and running NOW" thing... in other words they were rather disorganized. Nevermind WTF was up with the trailer city? Meh... Icky... dirty... dusty... gross... just got home... waiting for my turn in the shower... Merr... Gone show indeed! |
