Adam Freeland
After a short stint at Funky Winkerbeans we headed on down to the Lotus and were met with a bumpin' joint and a awesome vibe, probably best vibe I've see in that place - everyone was having a good time. Adam's set wasn't the most spectacular dj set ever but he still rocked it and and totally had the crowd (and me) goin - all in all a good show. Highlight of the night was at the end when he grabbed that glass and fuckin hucked it on the ground right in front of him - he's such a punkass dj, i love it! Only problem with the night, too much broken glass!
LDUB: that was one crazy adventure on the way home - stop makin djs break glasses yo! Mateo: don't forget about the spanish neutrons my man... and we will do the slum bar crawl soon Soma (aka Ale Wolf): don't know what happened to you guys later but I'll speak to you soon Femme Fetale: Good to meet ya! WPG: Always a good time girl, talk to ya soon. Money: Dude, as always you got my back - don't think I don't totally appreciate it! Kraig and Akeel: Good moshing with ya, although i think i was the only one moshing - akeel, don't worry - im a pro! Blunted: good seeing ya again... And on and on... i was a little drunk last night so anybody i forgot, oh well! Last edited by pbreak; Dec 12, 03 at 01:04 AM. |

It was a good time indeed! Hell... even though I had to work this morning, seeing Freeland live was worth it -- I can say I have now!
It was basically a fricken rock concert @ Lotus last night! Freeland has re-mixed every rock track there is... It was good... a bit Progressive at some points for my liking, but good production for sure. Soda was dropping some crazy un-released beats from CDR. Holy shit are you kids in for a treat when he battles Atomic Hooligan on New Years! I think the city doesn't realize though how lucky we are to have someone like Vinyl Ritchie... that dude drops TONS of rock/original funk. Good seeing lots of familar faces! -- Prism - thanks again for the beers dude. I live in Yaletown bro so you should come by and we can listen to some of those tunes we were talking about. Cheers. |

What a great night.... I agree with pbreak that it wasn't THE most amazing set I've ver seen but Freeland sure did have the crowd.
I absolutely love the rock remixes from Beastie Boys to Rage Against the Machine... and the 'Smells like Freeland' right into Nirvana was heavy as shit. Where was '7 Nation Army' though!?!?! :( All in all it was a great night.. I left there extremely sweaty and extremely satisfied :) |

Mixing was spot on. I wasn't feeling the whole Marine Parade trip he was taking me on since most of that stuff I have heard him play on radio shows etc. I really think Ztrip ruined it for me b/c he threw down rage, nirvana, etc and made it sound 19999999 times better then freeland did. But whatever he rocked it!

In a interview in Knowledge mag Freeland stated he wants to gage the scene to be less of an escapist retreat and to focus more on the state of the world whilst having a good time.
When he dropped Saul Williams' "Not in Our Name" 'pella it was pretty clear that he is successfully doing this through his djing aswell, not just pumping out choons with obvious content like WWYS. Music is a powerful medium, and Freeland's set was one I think a lot of people take for granted. His new site will have links up on some of the repressed info that has led him to take this message to his music. I will more than likely end up being a contributer for this new site since I came out on Wednesday and had a nice little chat after his set on all of the above. Good times. |

I have to disagree..........I am not breaks guru but I do know a thing or two, well maybe just one about DJ'ing. Freeland is a producer, a PERFORMER and a DJ ....He seems to be kicking ass at all three. He was totally into it, fed the crowd some of the craziest energy I have seen since Carl Cox, and threw down in a MAJOR WAY (literally.........moment of silence for the glass!!!!)
Everyone's experience is different and I bet 90% of the people who went really weren't straining to hear if he was flawless on every mix....all I saw were sweaty, smiling, happy people. Well okay all the people who I stumbled into, tripped over, accidentaly punched or sat on..........yeah I was feeling the Stella. I had an awesome time. Big props to 20Hz, I wish I would be in town for Soul of Man :(:(:( Last edited by Mirka Cerny; Dec 13, 03 at 07:02 PM. |
