DJ Ryan Ross
DJ Name - Ryan Ross Email: [email protected] Contact # 604 931-6949 Genre Of Music: All Over Your Face Breaks Affiliations: DA Productions, Exhale Entertainment, Unconscious Brothers How long have you spinning the decks for? 4 years What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? Started partying in 2000 and loved it. Getting some decks was the next logical step! What type of music do you specialise in? Breakbeats Most inexpensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? It's a Small World - .50$ What is your most treasured record and why? Aquasky - What's Down Low Because my friends say so. What events have you played at? IMF, Grande Finale, Fully Legal, History of Breaks 1 & 2, Oh Funky, 2 Funky, Godspeed, Edit DA Breaks, Bounty Breaks, Fully Legal, Chronic Birthday Beats, Rollin' on the River (Calgary) and others. Have you got any DJing horror stories? Got 2. One was at Fully Legal in Sept 2002. It was my second time playing out, I was opening, and the nerves were there in full force. I got through the first mix and partway through the second and then *skip*. I recovered and kept on going only to skip again in the middle of my fourth mix. This went on, every other mix, for the majority of the set until we figured out that the balance was fucked on the arm of that table. Lesson DEFINITELY learned! The second one took place at a 50's Sock Hop in the SFU Gym. The goal of the organizer was to fuck with people, and that he did! He booked me with Shift, as well as Global and Orbit, for a group that came expecting Top 40. No need to explain any further other than people stopping records, and one dude asking "Are you gonna play any dance music, or are you just going to spin records all night?" Any other information? I like to bring more than just beatmatching to the tables. Over the years I have been exploring in the realm of turntablism, as well as throwing in a little trumpet from time to time. I enjoy adding my own flavour to my tracks to keep things interesting all the way through. Last edited by Ryan Ross; Nov 03, 04 at 10:03 AM. |
