DJ SOO [email protected] Genre Of Music: drum n bass, hip hop, breaks, house, downtempo, funk, 80s, rock - preferably in the same set. Affiliations: www.woodnsoo.com Links: http://www.nwdnb.bc.ca How long have you spinning the decks for? 3+ years What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? Seeing Q-Bert cut back in '94 got me into turntablism way back when. Went to my first rave around 95 or so and got hooked. Took me several years to get the courage to drop the cash for a set of equipment and haven't looked back since. Z-Trip was the one who got me fully into embracing the mixing of different genres together in a cohesive style and it's been my style of choice ever since. What type of music do you specialise in? Hiphop, drum n bass, breaks, funk, 80s, downtempo, etc. Most expensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? I think I spent about $40US on an original pressing of Prodigy's Out of Space What is your most treasured record and why? Moving Shadow - Hyper On Experience remixes 10" original pressing w/ the Foul Play remix of Lords of the Null Lines and Khaotic Chemistry remix of Thunder Grip on the flip (SHADOW030R1 to you catalog nerds). It's just a banging track and having the original 10" makes me feel like some elite junglist of some sort... What events have you played at? I got my start with a residency at Edit Breaks that i had for over a year, held a brief residency at the 3rd incarnation of Swerve had a brief residency at DV8, played a bunch of small parties in and around town (namely Royal Platoon parties) with some of my favorites being Rum n Ass and RINSE 04, and I helped run the Boomtown stage at the Diversity Festival out on Texada Island (one of the funnest parties I've been to). Played at Lotus Long Weekend, Soundwave and Summer Break this year as well. As far as openings, I've opened for Matt the Alien a number of times, Perfect Combination a couple times, Sonic, Freaky Flow, Freq Nasty, Slip n Slide (and just Slip), UFO, Marcus Visionary, Lorin, Mathematics, Marcus Intalex, Raekwon, Coolio, and probably some I'm forgetting. I've also played at various club nights in town including Automatic, Brukout, twentyhz, Sunday Sessions, our short-lived Elements night, Fixed Fridays, Big Trouble. What National / International clubnights have you played at? Only out of town gig I played was at Crush:ed at Ohm nightclub out in Portland, Oregon Have you got any DJing horror stories? I was a top40 DJ at the Royal for 3 months (payed the bills :P). That in itself was a horror story. Are you a resident DJ, if so where? Get Funked - Fridays @ Richards on Richards Any other information? I like the push the envelope a bit. Been really down with mixing up several different genres in a single set and aspire to keep the party rocking without adhering to traditional genre lines. So long as it's funky and gets people to shake their asses. Last edited by dj_soo; Oct 31, 05 at 04:06 PM. |
