DJ Name - Johnny Ill Email: [email protected] Contact # 778 288-1055 Genre Of Music: Funky Nu-school Breakbeats Affiliations: Solid Corporation, DA Productions Demo 1 - First Day of School: http://www.bendmyspoon.com/johnbeans...f%20school.mp3 (right click, save as) Demo 2 - Lunch Breaks: http://www.gjpqy.com/music/Johnny%20...h%20Breaks.mp3 (right click, save as) How long have you spinning the decks for? 2 years What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? A friend of mine (wigglesworth) purchased a pair of decks and invited me over to play around on them. After that one encounter with turntables I was determined to get my own :). I've always been really into music, just never thought about DJ'ing till that day. What type of music do you specialise in? Breakbeats Most inexpensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? About a crate full of records from the 50's and 60's that my dad gave to me. What is your most treasured record and why? Jovan - Dirty Little Bitch Seems like no one else really has this record. It has a sick bassline and a hilarious vocal. What events have you played at? IMF 2005, The Press Room (sunday night), Fusion Dreams, Insomnia, Solid NYE 2005, Doomsnight, Fully Legal, History of Breaks 2, 2 Legit 2 Quit, Edit DA Breaks, numerous Tribeca nights. Have you got any DJing horror stories? I closed at Doomsnight. My timeslot was from 7-8 I think. I had been in the breaks room for pretty much the whole night and the sound in that room was VERY loud. Even the monitors were extremely loud but I didnt know how to turn them down and there wasn't anyone around to ask. My hearing was already completely blown by that time and it was really hard hearing what was coming out of my headphones. I somehow managed to get through that set in one peice, although once I stepped out of the venue all I could hear was ringing in my ears :(. Favorite Quote? "Music has no boundaries" - DJ Kentaro, 2001 DMC Champion Any other information? Any DJ can put on two records and beatmatch them. To be able to actually mix the two so that it sounds like just a progression in a single track is what makes DJ'ing an art. I also like to try and add a little scratching here or there, as well as throw tracks in that you wouldnt normally hear at a party in order to keep things fresh and fun.
