re: the 18th:
relm was billed 3rd and got as long a set as co-headliner k'naan. he in fact got as long a set as every other act except lyrics born, who closed the show (and pigeon john, who had a shorter set). oct 7th is a charity event that mr. relm is not getting paid anything for - he even cancelled a spokane gig to help us out as a favour he can play for as long or as short as he feels and i'd be grateful either way, as would those affected by hurricane katrina i would imagine. this event is designed to help get those people who would not otherwise donate money to the cause, off their asses to donate by way of buying a ticket. i would hate to have relm's set length disappoint anyone and have people complain that they didn't get their money's worth at a charity event i'm not at all interested in having that shit overshadow what this event is about (it seems to have already overshadowed what the event is about as no one has mentioned anything about the the fact that this is a charity event - in this thread anyway - most people are more concerned with what THEY get out of all this) that said, if you're there specifically to see a long-ass relm show, rather than to help those in need, you might perhaps want to save your $12 and wait for a proper mike relm headline show in the future...one that is centred all on him...one that is not a charity event, one that is not a multi-artist event if you would like to take the chance on his set length by donating $12 to charity, and in return get a full night of entertainment, we welcome you with open arms lifesavas have murdered the commodore twice (once opening for kweli, once as part of the quannum tour with dj shadow, blackalicious, etc) the coup has one of THE best shows i've ever seen - i can honestly say that having seen everyone from the roots, to stevie wonder (incdentally once at the lousiana superdome), to lauryn hill, to krs-one, to slick rick & doug e fresh to ozomatli live in concert this event is worth much more than the $12 donation, and your money goes to a good cause via: www.mercycorps.org www.convoyofhope.org www.feedthechildren.org all 4 star-rated charities by www.charitynavigator.com Click here for Mike Relm's Hurricane Katrina Video Tribute (Quicktime) . I was at both Lifesavas shows and 2/3 Mike Relm shows. These guys don't disappoint plus you are helping out families who are in dire need. There should be a donation box at this event for people who want to donate more then ticket price as thats how it should be.

thanks fellas!
we had a seperate donation box at our tsunami benefit, plus a little store selling cd's and other goodies, with all the money going to charity the extra donations nearly matched what was taken in at the door ($5000ish + $5000ish) which the goverment matched, resulting in a $20k+ red cross donation we'll once again have a seperate donation box plus a store set up selling cd's like - the new kanye - run dmc re-releases with bonus tracks - the latest common - damien "jr. gong" marley and other releases for suggested donation of $5 or more! i got these ill kanye keychains too that i'm donating will post pix later |

ok...
i'm gonna give you people a chance to buy goodies now, with all proceeds going to aforementioned charities if you're down to pay the buy it now price, we'll hold the item for you for to purchase and pick up at the katrina benefit. OR if you you paypal money over sooner, we'll send your item to you before the benefit auction item #1 - available for $20 donation (below retail) CARLITO's WAY - the prequel DVD if interested, e-mail [email protected] with "carlito" in the subject line The success of Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way ensures that the straight-to-DVD release of Carlito's Way: Rise to Power will attract an eager audience among fans of urban gangland melodramas. A stellar cast provides adequate compensation as this tame, relatively bloodless prequel trots out every cliché in the book, qualifying as the 21st-century equivalent of a Warner Bros. gangster programmer from the 1930s. The well-chosen cast of new and familiar faces is caught up in a standard plot of territorial tension in Harlem between the blacks led by Hollywood Nicky (Sean Combs, adding a touch of blingy humor), the old-school Mafia led by Artie Sr. (Burt Young), and the caught-in-the-middle Puerto Ricans who are gaining control as Carlito (Jay Hernandez, in the role Al Pacino originated) and his cross-cultural gang rises to power after his recent release from prison with cellmates and partners-in-crime Earl (Mario Van Peebles) and Rocco (Michael Kelly). They're a tight trio in a climate of mistrust and deception, and Earl's hot-headed brother (Mtume Grant) sets off a series of events that force Carlito to invent a clever alliance that raises the body count while ensuring his long-term status as a dude-you-don't-mess-with. It's fun, for what it's worth (and fans of De Palma's film will enjoy connecting events from one film to the other), but there's not a shred of originality in script or direction by Michael Scott Bregman, whose father Martin produced Carlito's Way. Still, there's something to be said for a gang picture that never promises more than it can deliver. On those terms, and with enough violence and strip-joint nudity to satisfy its generic prerequisites, Rise to Power is definitely worth a look. |
