dj Fresh (BC) [12/08/05] @TokeLounge
Yo, im soaked. My ears are ringing, and my feet hurt. Wait im not done. I got heartburn from scotch, my wallet is empty, my back pocket just puked out flyers and to boot im posting on FNk. Sounds like a blasting Thursday, cheers to Silverwaters and friends. Excellent evening. I tried to tell the story of his last visit. Concrete room of the bottom corner in old warehouse, busted about 4 tracks in by the RCMpunks. Tasted but not chewed. Since then BCR (Bad Company) was part of my personal all time fave Barcelona, which I didn't hear. Boo! (My custom mp3 ring tone will have to make due.) Tokelounge was jumping, I tell you it was one of the best nights I have had there only comparable to my 20th birthday.. and most defiantly the most I have danced since High Contrast. Keep them coming Vancouver! Sick sick sick. Verbal Ass had some banging verbs for the room, that "drop one more" or whatever the fuck was awesome, don't give your mic to that other dude. Fresh opened with a Tarantula mix (I donno enough dnb to pick witch) and then closed (almost) with another Tarantula, mixed over some light HC kinda sound.. absolutely banging none-the-less. Well my last glass on roxx is almost done, spell check, edit edit edit and goodnight.
Bestest luck to everyone tomorrow morning at their regular AM day2day, gawd knows I'll need it... scoooottttch I'll tell you, I tell you what, that Fresh he brought Bad Company and everyone loved em. 10/10 |

big ups for making this night happen! showed up just in time for Fresh!
Thanks Josh, and Kristine! :) i heard some awesome remixes. one that i really like was "Hold your colour", that sounded pretty sick... wish i didnt have to work this morning, feel pretty tired. Seemed that Tokyo lounge was pretty busy. if it was more busy i dont know how i'd be able to breath! it was pretty hot in there! Fresh looked like he was totally having fun! nice seing everyone who was there! :) thanks again for bringin FRESH to our wikkid city! |

Myles, I will concur, although I don't get out to that many events, but the few times I have seen you, you've never danced as much as you were going off last night. While not a full blown dnb head, I definately enjoyed the set. Too exhausted to dance the myles dance all night, but I liked what I heard. All the pendulum tracks dropped kept reminding me how stupid I was to miss them back a few months ago though. Also, first time being in tokyo lounge, that place is really nice. |

waay too loud in there. Someone has to tell these UK DJs that louder =/= better.
Fresh was good - lotta dubs, tight mixing - not my kind of dnb, but i knew that going in. Anyone know the name of that one dub he dropped with the 1/2 time hiphop-y intro (I believe he rewound it too)? That was cool although like Slam, I prefered the intro to the actual track. Dabbler, I'm looking at you :). Biggest surprise was actually Dawson - I usually think he's absolutely terrible but i'll give props where props are due and he's actually learned to not jabber incessantly over the set and actually shut the hell up and let the DJ do his thing. |

i had a great time. met a few new people, too. hello there!
personally, i was hoping to hear more new stuff, rather than remixes of old stuff, but it was dope nonetheless. what was the "one more track" played? that was fuckin bangin. thanks for having me, josh, see ya saturday! ps - the big black bouncer was an asshole. |

i liked your review, but i think it's a bit much to recommend that elan not be given a chance to rock the mic. the thing that i like about elan's mc'ing is that he is respectful and humble towards the music, knows when to shut up and let the music do the talking, and just generally adds to the vibe, rather than shitting all over it and worrying about whether his voice can be heard overtop the tunes. he's not concerned with the amount of attention he's getting - unlike most mc's. it's cool to state that you prefer dawson, fair enough, but to recommend that someone else who can hold his own on the mic not be given a chance is stupid. elan's without a doubt proven himself on several occasions that he is one of vancouver's strongest mc's. and he's a cool cat to boot ;)
admittedly, dawson was better last night than at any other time i've seen him perform. Quote:
