FREQ_NASTY (skint) +K-SWING (Freeland's Protege) @ Richards - Fri.Apr28
VIVID & OnPoint present...
Breakbeat Monsters Friday April 28 FREQ NASTY skint - uk alongside K-SWING marine parade - nyc Bringing together one of the most badd-ass names in dance music today, with breakbeat's rising new female star. Freq Nasty has headlines around the world, at Shambhala, and has his own political movie in theatres... K-SWING from New York has been hailed at the next big star in Breaks and become Adam Freeland's protege, she also has been on a massive tour alongside Sandra Collins with a sold out stop in Vancouver in 2004. ABOUT FREQ NASTY The artist known as FreQ Nasty has over the last few years become known as the man behind a unique sound, championed by producers and DJ's alike - the person most likely to pull dance music out of the occasional creative cul-de-sac it finds itself in once every few seasons. FreQ. Nasty's debut single was the much championed 'Boomin' Back Atcha'- A mid- tempo stomper of a track complete with bleeps and voice snippets straight out of trashy 50's sci-fi movies. It fast became the stand-out feature of the more daring deck-wrecker's set. It was with the follow-up 'Underglass' however that Darin really started to make some waves. Truly a filthy fucker of a record it was near pornographic in its pursuit of the perfect low down and dirty kick. Acid sounds bent out of shape coupled with super-tight percussion and breaks pinned down by the fierce low-end responses that subsequently have become the FreQ Nasty trademark. 'Underglass' tweaked the music press enough for them to run articles in Muzik, NME, Update, and Jockey Slut. The ball was starting to roll... ABOUT DJ K-SWING K-Swing (AKA Katie Kabel) is one of the freshest new faces on the American clubbing circuit. Leading the next generation of “it” American-born DJs, Katie is making a name for herself with a style that traverses far away from what the others are doing; that is, she’s simply playing the hottest break beat tracks on the planet. In fact, K-Swing provides a solution to exactly what’s been missing from dance music - fresh and exciting music, youthful enthusiasm, passion, charisma and a “sixth sense” for what the dance floor craves. She knows exactly how to move a crowd and keep bodies covered in sweat, begging for the next massive record. While her DJ career is still young, she has already achieved a level of success that most DJs wait a lifetime for. In 2003, she opened up for Josh Wink, toured with Adam Freeland (arguably the world’s finest breaks DJ / producer) and played at Paul Oakenfold’s annual WMC Perfecto Party; In 2004, thus far, she’s played a series of dates with Sandra Collins and opened for The Chemical Brothers. Already a fan favorite, Katie has played at some of North America’s finest clubs, including Buzz (Washington, D.C.), Centro-Fly (NYC), Club Space (Miami), Avalon (NYC and L.A.), Sonar (Baltimore), The Church (Denver), System Soundbar (Toronto), Stereo (Montreal) and Quest Club (Minneapolis.) Topping it all off, she was nominated (along with respected artists Behrouz, Gabriel & Dresden, The Scumfrog and Carl Kennedy) for the Best Breakthrough DJ Award at the 2004 Dancestar USA: American Dance Music Award Show. Katie has also been featured in the pages of top dance and lifestyle magazines including URB, DJ Mag (Adam Freeland called Katie “Best undiscovered DJ”), Teen Vogue and Loft. plus: PROPER VILLAINS on point JIMMY TOWERS twenty hz $15 Tickets available online now @ www.clubZone.com/PH1 also at Boomtown, Zulu, Vinyl, Beat Street, Laramy Richards on Richards 1036 Richards st. 10pm-3am www.PH1.ca www.Tigerstone.tv www.TwentyHz.com Last edited by PH1.ca; Mar 27, 06 at 10:32 PM. |
