Both THE FREESTYLERS @ Richards - 08/10
(Posting this so early as Internet newsletter and CZ promo is going out with it anyway.)
AUGUST: Month #3 of the TWISTED SUMMER BREAKFEST! Twisted Productions is proud to present... WHEN: Thursday, August 10th, 2006 (special pre-Shambhala performance!) -- Doors open at 9PM sharp and things run till 2AM+ WHERE: Richards on Richards -- 19+ venue, 2 pieces of ID required for entry -- Extra sound will be brought in for the event to ensure the venue is sounding proper! Both Matt and Aston will be here playing a 3-HOUR set: THE FREESTYLERS, UK - Against the Grain / www.thefreestylers.com So, here’s what you probably already know about The Freestylers - They've made over 50 songs, sold over half a million records, scorched the charts with jams like “Push Up” and “B-Boy Stance”, have won numerous awards over the years, frequently tour with their live band, had their track “Ruffneck” licensed in the hit movie Zoolander and have even opened for Lenny Kravitz! Albums like “We Rock Hard” (sold 250,000+ copies), “Pressure Point” (over 150,000+ copies) and then in 2004 their third album to date “Raw As F**k” on Against the Grain have all gained critical acclaim and the duo are now hard at work on their forth album due for release in 2006. The Freestylers sound is rooted in Hip Hop but has evolved into a unique British concoction, taking in everything from Dancehall to Reggae, Electro to Soul and Breakbeat to Drum and Bass. "It’s pretty tricky trying to sum us up," admits Matt Cantor. Aston continues, “It’s quite mad really - two funky white boys bringing all these groups of people together." – And they are continuing to do this by “having fun making music that people can dance their fucking ass off to” says Matt… And they’ve proved that yet again by collaborating with Drum and Bass dons Pendulum on one of the biggest tracks of 2005, “Fasten Your Seatbelt” out on Breakbeat Kaos. It’s been way to long since we’ve had both Matt and Aston back here to Vancouver and Twisted is proud to welcome back one of the most influential duo’s in Breakbeats past and present – THE FREESTYLERS! Why oh why oh why does this have to be at Richards. The last big breaks show - Stanton was so packed (so I've heard) it was digusting and hot.
If you think stanton drew a big crowd, it will be nothing compared to this. I dunno why we keep using that venue for huge shows and pack it (literally) to the rafters. A perfect spot for a show like this would be that station venue, but, that's just my opinion. |

And PS: if we booked the station, add another $10-$15 PER TICKET to pay for it. -- It comes down to venue costs. |

Mate I totally understand it's tough to get a weekend venue in this city at a cost that's not going to skyrocket ticket prices.. Especially because of the huge hiphop/top40 pull in this city, unfortunatly.
Anyways man, I'll still be there, wouldn't miss this simply because of the venue. I just wish this city wasn't totally consumed by top40 on the weekends.. I need to move back to London lol! Last edited by firestar; Jun 19, 06 at 10:06 PM. |
