Rest assured we will do our best to enforce the 16+ rule. What we're really trying to do is combat the scantily clad booty short wearing kids, but we can't exactly write that on a flyer. The last thing we wanted to do was discriminate against some of our audience, but after much self examination coupled with public discussion on this board, we decided to give this a try and see if it made any remarkable difference in our shows. We'll know in six weeks time how it all works out.

Im so stoked for the 16+.
I can just see the young uns getting fake school ID's claiming that they are 16, bahahaha and the Palace my not be new, but its different. I wish wed have a venue closer to van though, for those of us who transit- however I am in no way complaining. Totally stoked to party in another venue. |

Why is Trancemission 16+?
I got a few pm's today from ravers about this 16+ policy, so I figured instead of replying to all of them I'd just explain it all here. If anyone needs clarification, just ask:
The 16+ policy is really just a bandaid for a more underlying and disturbing problem. I personally, have no problem letting youth into our shows. It sounds cheesey, but teens are the future of the rave scene; we're passing the torch to the next generation of EDM lovers. I started going to parties when I was 14 and I like to think nobody was ever prejudiced against me based on my age. However, a major concern of ours is that young women (early teens, etc) have been continually coming to our shows wearing next to nothing and attracting the 'wrong kind of attention' for lack of better terms. The last thing we want is for a sexual assault to occur at one of our events and that has become a major concern in the City of Vancouver and the City of Richmond based on the mode of dress of some of the younger attendees of our events. I have spoken to both city officials and parents regarding this matter and as we, the company, see it, it is the 12-15 crowd that is most impressionable and feeling the social pressure to dress, act out, or behave in this overly exhibitionist manner. The 16+ rule is our way of attempting to combat this problem. I hope you can understand that having an 'all ages' crowd brings a lot of legal matters into tighter focus where consensual age is concerned. Because of the continuing trend of young girls dressing more 'adult' in the last few years, we have now had to rethink that all ages policy. This is not just for our protection from a legal standpoint, but also to be proactive in protecting youth from potential assault. Simply put, until some people stop trying to prove something by wearing less and less clothing to every show, we will have to be extra careful in allowing youth to attend our events. I'd like to go one step further by aknowledging the fact that there are plenty of people 16 and over who act like idiots too and behave in the same manner as some youth. We simply feel that the majority of the 'exhibitionists' for lack of a better term fall in the early teen category and believe that those 16+ individuals who continue to act and dress in a manner that is 'inviting' to unsavory elements of society are more aware of the possible outcomes of their choices and accept responsibility for themselves (both from a maturity standpoint as well as from a legal perspective). Hopefully, some young people will get the message to be aware and not allow themselves to be objectified. Please understand, those of you who are under 16, the last thing we want to do is single you out, and I apologize to those of you who this affects. There are plenty of you whom I have met who act in a mature adult manner and are not to blame for this. Regards, Alje Event Coordinator Evolve Event Management, Inc. |
