I just got home. First the bad, since there's way less of that:
-My ride home ditched me. After getting burnt to shit in the sun trying to hitch a ride, a guy picked up like 10 of us in a bus (and two people whose car broke down, plus two others). We all got to Kelowna, where we thankfully just made the bus back to Vancouver (and all but about two people on a full Greyhound bus were from Shambhala). -Naked preteens on the beach. That's just wrong. -The main stage. The music wasn't all that great, and the setup wasn't either. The Good: -Ewok Village and Fractal Forest. Both had CRAZY setups, and both in terms of sound and setup put to shame anything Vancouver has. Unless Summer Break comes up with something good, I don't think this will change. -The music. Not all of it was house/trance/etc. There was some beatboxing, turntablism, live bands, etc, and none of it seemed out of place. -The crowd. The crowds were into the music way more than any rave that I'd been to. It was an amazing sight to see. -The people. Although I didn't necessarily meet tons of people, there's definitely some people who I'll be seeing again, and whom I had some good times with. -Water. I only went through two bottles of water, and that's only because I gave one to a friend who was sketched out on shrooms. -Experience. There was an illegal narcotic that I may or may not have done for the first time, and probably will never do again, but it was a hell of an experience while it lasted. -The bus ride from Shambhala to Kamloops. There's a story behind this that I'll tell some of you for sure. Lets just say something from the last point came in pretty handy. I actually didn't take too many pics this weekend. Nights I was pretty effed up, and afternoons I was a beach bum. I took zero pics on the beach, out of respect for all the naked people. I think I got 65 or 70 pics that will be up later tonight though. Anyways, I think I can manage about 2 more hours of sleep before work today (after getting none from 7pm Sunday until about 10pm Monday). Should be a craptactular day of work for sure. BTW, that 5am speed garage was ripper. Amanda Rude has a pretty big crowd going for that time of morning. |

The only other bad thing that came to mind: the lack of breaks. I missed the Freestylers, and there the only people that come to mind who played any breaks. There was a bit of electo kind of breaks in Fractal Forest for a bit on Saturday that I'd heard, but that's about it. There was plenty of house and electro though, so that was good. The mostly-trance stage was pretty solid though (when you could find the damn stage).

^That's really odd you mention a lack of breaks
What I noticed was at any given point 3 or 4 stages out of 5 were playing breaks Anyway as usual Shambhala lived up to my expectations and more. It's simply awe inspiring the amount of detail and hardwork they put into this party It's worth every penny to attend this party! There's no Vancouver party that has EVER came close to the amount of production they put in, nor do I think it'll happen here anytime soon! Not saying Vancouver doesn't have cool parties from time to time, but it's all the more reason to attend Shambhala if you haven't I made a couple DVD's of the nights if anyone wants a copy. I was pretty messed up, but it still turned out ok. |

Mind, I could have just missed out on most of the solid beat moments. I spent nearly all of Friday night lost in that forest anyways. :p |

Good to see you to Frosty!
Next year just do as we did. Unscrew the panels in your car, fill em full of liquor, screw them back in, and drive right in. Then of course don't be shithead. Make sur eyou drink all your drinks from a cup, and properly dispose of all your can.....especially bottles I think what I enjoy about Shambhala best is the little things. As soon as we drive in the enviromental crew will give us 1 bag for garbage, 1 for recycling. There's bins all over for trash, recycling and compost. The site is cleaned regularly. The outhouses are regularly cleaned and filled with toilet paper, and the concession doesn't sell it like parties do here. Every little detail seems to be taken care of in a very professional matter As for preteens naked on the beach. I saw lots of naked people, no preteens though. But regardless, Shambhala has a nude beach and it's pretty much nonsexual. People express themselves the way they want at this party, if there were naked preteens they were more than likely under parental supervision. |

holy fuck. just got off the bus from salmo to van this morning, i just woke up.
things is fuzzy as shit right now so Ill conduct a more thorough review soon enough. but I just had to say. this event surpasses every event I've ever been too. the term Music Festival doesnt seem to do it total justice. There was so much more there. Shambhala wasnt just a place to camp and dance. it was an entire attitutde, and perspective on life. I had the time of my life. anyone who hasnt gone, hope to see you next year! :) |

Fuck ya buddy! I'm stoked that you were there! Sooooooo much fuckin' fun. I like to rip it ;)

Salmo River Ranch is privately owned... They keep the stages set up all year round, so they can just build onto it every year (minus the art, etc- but most of that is saved). Tons of effing work is still put into it obviously ;) ... so they have an upper hand to someone who has to start from scratch every year! |
