Maxtor's always been hit or miss with me. I've had some that are still going strong for almost 7 years, and I've had some die within about 5 months. Seagate's have always worked best for me. Western Digital's usually work well for me as well.

there are ups and downs with every vendor. i've had a maxtor last me for 8 years in a desktop system that was always on, and i've had almost a hundred western digital drives die on me at work because they were from the "march 2004" batch.

BTW narc, what type of drives were you using? The Maxline from Maxtor was more designed for 24/7 use, and has a higher MTBF than the Diamondmax series. Even still, I never really trusted the Maxline from Maxtor.
If I were using anything other than SCSI, I've always used the Western Digital RE and Seagate Near-Line series of drives. These drives have 1000000+ MTBF, and they've been extremely reliable in every server I've ever sold. |
