I am not really sure where, or how you are up to date considering in your original post you stated she couldn't legally do anything. And she can.

I don't put you down to make myself feel better about anything. I think what you are doing is actually wrong, no matter the situation, and she is still entitled to her pay, she provided the service.

I am an accountant, not in HR, but I am up to date, and current with my employment standards to ensure I am a well rounded employee. Maybe you should try a little of the same.

You work in HR, I would think people in that line of work would be some of the only people to know better than to air confidential company matters in public. It's not like it's that hard to find out where you work.

disputes between HR and employees, even ex employees are NOT public business, even job interviews gone horribly wrong are NOT public business.

I feel sorry for the people who have to come to you with sensitive matters in the workplace because you don't seem like you can remain neutral, understanding, or even keep matters within the doors of the workplace as they certainly should remain. A good person in HR deals with people the best they can, even if they seem impossible or their requests are unreasonable and they don't bitch about it for others to see.

I also am an accountant, with some HR responsibilities.

If a employee quits and wants their cheque RIGHT then I just figure out their hours and use TOD. I love TOD.

I usually ask if they can wait for the next pay run so that I don't have to write their manual ROE since I use Ceridian for the payroll and they do all that for me.

Most are really good about not needing it right away (they've found another job) and just wait. I guess they don't know Employee Standards, so no one actually has yelled at me for not getting their cheque/ROE within the proper time period.
