And "nite" and "lite" are not considered correct in American English. The most common difference that American English omits the "u" in words like colour, neighbour, honour, etc. |

i reckon that "nite" & "lite" are just examples of how people are becomming lazier typers/spellers. however, i am also some-what guilty of this. for the most part, i type "pple" instead of "people." not necessarily because i'm lazy, but because it's just a habit i've had for over 1/2 a decade... y'know, up until a few years ago, I used to be SUCH a grammar/spelling nazi! but now, i've learned to accept...nay...EMBRACE lazy typers/spellers, partially 'cause i'm turning into one. =P but deep down inside, it still kinda bothers me. =/ i suppose it's 'cause i've been pre-programmed by "the man" over my years of schooling that grammar/spelling MUST be perfect. but a lot of us haven't mastered the difference between research papers and the internet. the internet is informal. why try to make it formal? but what's interesting is that a lot of people see proper grammar/spelling as a form of respect for another person(s). i'm guilty of this on occasion. but it all depends on who i'm talking to... |
