its all psychological to the players when it comes down to thousands of people chanting various shit.... Go to a Habs game.... its insane... especially when Toronto comes into town.... people cheer for leafs then the Habs most of the time....
Whether it prevents the other team from winning or showing the home team the deppreciation again all comes down to psychological aspects of the game... really if your bitching about boo'ing the refs.... opposing team or home team you might as well bitch and whine as to why people cheer when someone scores a goal or some shit... |

Boo the opposing team when one of them cross checks one of our players face first into the boards. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm saying don't do it just as a matter of course. And I'd go so far as to say there's never any point in booing your home team, save getting some petty satisfaction out of expressing your disappointment. In the meantime, you're reducing your team's confidence, taking momentum away from them heading into the next game. The good new is that the Canucks are going on the road and they can leave all the pressure behind them for a couple of games. You watch, they'll skate like they've had lead weights lifted off their legs on Sunday. |

Don't put all the Vancouver fans in one basket though Dave. While our city is notorious for having poor fans it definitely doesn't mean all of us.
I think a lot of what ends up being a 'poor' fan though is lack of knowledge about the game. You know what I mean right? The morons who start booing and screaming 'SHOOT!!!' if there hasn't been a shot within 30seconds into a PP... despite the fact that if they had even attempted a shot that the puck would have been blocked and/or stopped and sent up the ice. Just an example here but if you know the game you wouldn't boo that right? |

I agree Shawn.. for every 1 guy who was yelling that the stars sucked at the end of the game there was probably 20 or more just sighing and filing for the exits.
I just feel like there's an abnormal amount of people at these games who are confused as to what it means to support a sports team. I don't know what they think they're accomplishing with that behavior, but it seems so forced that it's like some kind of ill-conceived strategy. |

The players are playing for an organization that souly survives off of the fans. People pay big money (especially during the playoffs) to see a game or hold season tickets. At the end of the day the players are getting paid whether if they win or whether if they loose. By the fans boo'ing the home team it essentially gives them an eye opener that they need to work harder its as simple as that. Its been like that forever. Sports is all about entertainment.... If people are not entertained they will show there disapproval I believe however lastnights failure was due to the fact on Alain Vigneaults decision not to practice the day before the game. Especially during the playoffs you gotta keep the momentum going so there set for each and every game and thats why they lost |

something i noticed last night as the game came down to the final seconds, as the puck was dropped deep in the dallas zone, i could see and hear fans cheering and waiving their towels, despite the fact that there was no way in hell we were going to win.
now i am not discrediting the fact that there was a ton of people who were taunting turco in this game and the last one in a very asshole-ish kind of way, but when u want ur team to advance to the next round, especially when u are facing a team that has a goalie that has a terrible playoff record, wouldn't u want to get him off his game? the whole "the fans are the 6th player" bit is totally true. there are alot of teams out there that pull worse shit than vancouver. and after watching nothing but toronto and ottawa games for a season, and nothing but calgary and edmonton games for another, i am confident when i say that vancouver has some of the most loyal, dedicated, and overall energetic fans in the entire NHL. at least when vancouver get eliminated out of the playoffs, i don't see many self-proclaimed "true canuck fans" cheering for calgary. can't say the same for the fans here in edmonton. I think the fans NEEDED that game last night to get knocked back into reality and understand that Luogno cannot do it by himself. I think the fans, and the team have been relying on him far too much.
The Canucks played sloppy last night, Dallas had a stronger team, shit happens. It's only game 2. |

Completely agree with your statements regarding last nights game. But.....
I was at game 1, and even though the score may have been 1-1, 2-2, or 4-4, it still seemed to make sense to shout down Turco. He was shaky, let in a couple weak goals, and on some level the arena wide cheers of 'TURCO *pause* SUCKS', must have helped remind him that he was not having a steller game. So in that instince I was leading the way ! |

The part about "people pay big money" etc isn't really a countargument to mine because I considering booing a disadvantage to our team. If (and of course it's debateable) booing makes us play worse, then these fans who "pay big money" should probably stop doing it, because I doubt they want that result. Appreciate your take, anyways... Quote:

I also liked the guy in front of us who heckled the people who were leaving a 2-0 playoff game... with 2 minutes 30 seconds left!!! "Go home! Don't come back!" Right on bro! Quote:
I say wait until he's having a real crap game, or has a hilarious misadventure with the puck behind the net, before we pull that out. Then it's funny, and it might get under his skin. Imagine you're a goalie and you're stopping everything, and the puck looks like a beachball to you (and you're not Cloutier). Then the fans start chanting your name derisively.. you're gonna be like "Hahaha I'm working your team over and you're full of impotent rage". Not productive. Quote:

it's true tho - just something about vancouver crowd mentality is ruthless and just disrespectful.
allegedly, Bjork refused to perform here for the last 10 years or so due to how she was treated the last time she performed. Eminem was boo'd and water bottled off the stage when he performed here before he became big. How bout the show incident with Oasis? There are just a lot of assholes in this city for some reason and when you get a lot of them together and add alcohol people start getting this pro-wrestling mentality in that they think they're being clever with their chants and whatnot when all they're doing is making the city look like a bunch of dicks. I also agree with ebbo - we are in the midst of bandwagon season where half the people at the game aren't fans of hockey itself but just are getting swept up in the playoff fever and therefore are contributing to the negative ignorance. |
