As far as English classes go, it REALLY depends on whether you enjoy the material the teacher has chosen or not. If you hate it, it's like torture, and if you love it, then you end up feeling like it isn't even homework at all...That and how demanding the teacher is.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to suffer through it! My first English lit class was like that, ugh.

I was gonna take Canadian Lit this summer but it was all Robertson Davies, eww. Couldn't they come up with anything more interesting??

i always thought the stoners were more successful....

Courtney, i swear if you had the right teacher, you might enjoy l'anglis, however i also haaaate the old shit, if your reading paradise lost and the C. tales etc. then i feel for you, although the prologue to the c. tales is a favorite of mine....in my scholastic experience i find most students hate english and are forced to take it. As you said though, you just have to get through this course, and then you are free from it.

If it helps i love english, and am currently hating it with the amount of poetry i have lined up but refuse to attend to. Trying to write figurativly on the spot can be very frustrating!

Robertson Davies is awesome!

I love his character development. I've read two of his trilogies and enjoyed them both.

I love my teacher and I really like the books but I hate essays!

i am an essay master if you need any help, but i know jim already offered and you said no ....i hate studying for tests, i'll take an essay any day over a test..you get a chance to get better and incorporate your own insight. Essays are all about practice....personally, i only like writing them if i am passionate about the subject, maybe you'd find soc. papers more stimulating.

I was serious about the alcohol. No not weed, just makes you lazy and not want to write papers. Weed is good for idea-generation but not for writing. Alcohol gets the language receptors in the brain working for you.

I'm serious. It's kind of funny how Stephen King, in his book On Writing, goes on a tirade about how alcohol doesn't enhance the writing process, and then goes on to say that he barely remembers writing one of his best novels. Frankly, everything he's done since he's been on the wagon sucks.

yah, but everyone operates differently...some people work well on weed some people don't, but i don't know anyone who works well drunk. I've heard of a beer to take the edge off, but even that before night time english and i felt loopy. A lot of great poets were also alcoholics, but they often go out of their way to say"he wrote his best stuff in his sober days."
