i need your feedback...is this unprofessional?
ok so i quit my job...it was a shitty time to do so because we are short staffed as it is. However,i need more money...
so anyways i hand in my 2 weeks and my boss somehow doesnt understand and says i have to work for the rest of my shifts in august...i said ide take a few but she told the girl i work with its up to ME to try to get them all covered(hello, i handed in my two weeks!) ... anyway i go in there the other day and there is so much tension...she starts yelling at me telling me ive left everyone screwed over and everyone else is scrambling because of me, telling me she wont give up her vacay because of ME...i told her im giving u my 2 weeks which is fair and she goes"ure giving me the minimum' No, thats not the minimum thats the standard. She takes me up to her office and pretty much reams me out for 10 mins about how shes done me so many favours and how could i do this etc. im crying because i feel so terriible because shes been guilt tripping...then i ask if i can elave the office and she slams her hand agains tthe door and refuses to let me out saying "ure not going anywhere till we settle this" Im sorry but thats not ok! i gave her two fucking weeks and ive never been made to feel like such shit for leaving a job ever |

courtney - two weeks is a courtesy, not something you are obligated to give.
if i were you, i would tell her she can have you for two more weeks and that will give her a chance to look for someone else, or she cant have you at all and you can not fill your shifts at all. you should report her to your superior. she is way out of line |

if you read employment standards, there is no minimum that you need to give. Like Avana said, the two weeks are a courtasy.
Don't let her yell at you, you have your reasons on why you are leaving the job. It isn't your responsibility to keep the company staffed. They have two weeks. Once a company offered everything to me the day before I left.. I gave them notice and nothing was said until the last day. I thought that was very unproffessional of them. |

your boss is short staffed and freaking out.
your the one that has her by the short and curlys..... what kind of job is this>? do you need a reference from them? if not...id just tell them to fuck right off and then move on to bigger and better things... life is just to short to put up with bad bosses and shitty jobs when your young. |

so let me get this straight.... your giving at least a 2 weeks notice and they are trying to stop you..... AHAHAHAHHA holy shit...
With what you've typed based on the situation why would anyone want to work in that type of environment to begin with..... A complaint about workloads and shit has NOTHING to do with the direct employee. It has to do how the organization staffs, and with you giving them 2 weeks would be considered as a favor of notification. What would happen if you got pregnant and needed to go on maternity leave.. "NO YOUR NOT HAVING A BABY!" ... sure.... What would happen if you'd drop dead..... would they send condolences to your family or bitch them out because now they have a bigger workload.... I'd seriously laugh about the whole situation. If thats how they are gonna conduct business then... Wow... Just Wow. |

Definitely unprofessional. Sure, your employer has the right to feel stressed about being creative with the schedule to try to make things work, but they do not have the right to take it out on you. The smart posters are absolutely right, two weeks is a courtesy and not a requirement unless otherwise stated in your employment contract. Reference wise, the least they would legally have to do even if you didn't work the whole two weeks because they bothered you so much is do an employment verification- which an employer legally has to do, and its basically saying 'yes this person was employed here from x date to x date' and that's it.
If I was you, I'd document the facts- not the emotions, and contact labor relations so that in the least even if nothing is done, it will still be on file for your employer. What they have done is unacceptable. |

FRA hit the nail on the head.
Your boss is stressed bc she clearly sucks at her job or else she wouldn't be in the position of being short staffed. Giving two weeks notice is a courtesy unless it is written into your contract otherwise. If you don't have a contract, you don't have the obligation. Courtney, if I were you I would go in to work tomorrow (even if you are not scheduled), tell her that the way she spoke to you was unacceptable and that you will be contacting her superior as well as labour relations. Inform her that you will not be returning to work out the rest of your shifts as you feel uncomfortable working in a hostile environment with her. Then leave. Don't give her a chance to argue with you, and if she tries, just politely say "I'm sorry, but I don't work here anymore" and walk out. Even if you're still owed a paycheque they legally have to mail it to you within 14 days of your paydate so it's not like you'll even ever have to go back in if you don't want to. |
