You don't seem to understand Microsoft's business strategy
1) Find marketable trend in computing
2) Buy small stake in major player in computing trend
3) Realize that you can make an awful lot more profits by being the controlling interest, buy out the rest of the major investors
4) Patch it to death to keep feature set current with major competitor
5) Rebrand to recent all-encompassing brand du jour (most lately Windows Live), try to integrate with all other MS systems to stifle competition, spend the next three years inundated with issues which take forever to resolve since they're too busy managing how their resolutions will take place to actually resolve them (so that they look good on paper to the investors)
6) Profit
