The Recession
FUCK. good jobs are hard to find. rent isn't cheap and the places i can afford aren't anywhere close to where i need to be. and trivially.. i can't exactly pin point when this started, but company holiday parties are getting worse and worse and worse.
i don't have the money to spend on the silly little things that make me happy, but i spend it anyways because i'm a spendaholic. and my credit card feels so abysmally deep it's like fighting quicksand. it's funny. there are people out there trying to make a buck from nothing, like party promoters or artists, but it's tough for them to get support from their friends and faithful because there aren't a lot of bucks to go around. big companies are tightening their belts too. i've seen friends lose their jobs out of the blue (Radical Games) or even see it coming (eBay Vancouver Customer Support). it's scary. but is the recession really that apparent in Vancouver compared to everywhere else? have you been fucked some how by 'the state of the economy'? |

i rent. for me, buying a place will happen some time in the future. If you JUST want to talk about real estate, when the topic is more broad than just that, then thanks for directing me to the right thread.
having a mobile, 1 "bed room" bachelor pad on the water would be nice though. I read something on the news that says this recession could have a long lasting effect on our spending as a whole. Lower, middle and upper class people are spending more frugally and will even after the coast is clear. I, for one, have definitely changed my spending priorities since I originally posted. |

^ i bet educated folks who already have their foots in the doors of reasonably stable career fields are doing fine, but it's a bad time to be an under-educated mook like myself. The flip-side is that it's a great motivator for those who are in the same boat to start seriously considering their education and career goals these days as it's much more difficult to coast by without taking it seriously.

For the majority, times are tough. Less people are spending money on things they would normally do like: Shopping, restaurants, home improvement, new TV's, etc. At the same time, you have higher taxes (HST) and rising prices on everyday items. All in all, it's recipe for disaster.
What's worse, is that the people who are fairing well, like large corporations who have billions in reserve trust funds are screwing the little guy same as ever. Normally, I don't like to rant on about inflation and recession, but I'm just so pissed at big business fucking everyone all the time. |

those who feel threatened or worse, jealousy when confronted by the success of their peers are no better (and in my opinion even worse) than those who boast about the results of their hard work and good fortune. i think dalailama is feeling a little insecure lol. |

you know what, I got into a trade that was already suffering to begin with, as an Ironworker Ill get dispatched out to a job and than be layed off the next week, that's just how it goes and im kinda used to it. I tell you though, there is nothing like my job, monkeying around iron beams 300 feet in the air is a rush in it self and I wouldn't do anything else. Yes the recession sucks balls and has been really hard for me, but its unity that keeps us together, positive vibes and good times are the cure. And hey there's nothing wrong with eating a bowl of cereal for dinner.
