Okay guys, I think you are all jumping to conclusions...I don't think that galaxie ever said, "I am better than all of you, I work at Off the Wall, therefore, you guys must all sit on your asses all day"...did she?! Also, if I defend her right to be proud of her workplace, it immediately insinuates that I would "like to get down her pants" or have joined in some "galaxie fanclub"? I think that that is a little far fetched and immature.
Anyways, maybe it's my own personal outlook, but some of the people that I have the most respect for are young people who work in places like McDonalds, making $6 an hour, with a smile on their face. Lastly, my comment, "if I looked liked galaxie, I'd be a snob/bitch too", was obviously a joke... Courtney, no, it doesn't give her the right to demean or degrade others...which I haven't seen her do yet. I've only seen her add on to the list of things she doesn't like about Surrey...which is the topic of this thread. Was. Now if there's more to the story, then I am obviously in the wrong. *Jen* p.s. Is it not hypocritical of all of you to jump on Galaxie about being a "snob", when you all appear to think that you are better than her? |

not once did i say that i was better than her...i simply stated that she was not better than the rest of this board for having a specific job.
for her to say "they come into my mall and blah blah blah" is stating that she is better than "them". and i will repeat myself...surrey whut!!!! heh. |

...okay...both of the spectrum dually noted. I don't care...like I said, it was just my 2 cents...maybe 3...
On another not about Surrey (the initial topic of convo!)- it is so crowded (maybe it's justifiable) with cops... I can think of this one instance when my bf and I went from his place (near 152nd) to King George and we passed 18 cop cars...there and back. That is insane. *Jen* |

this morning for example....driving down scott rd.
i saw 5 cops in about 4 minutes. sure i was in surrey...but none of those cop cars were surrey cops. they were all delta. I shouldn't have to defend where i live right now to anyone. If it was such a shit hole..I wouldn't live here. DUH! (and for all you people who enjoying being difficult...the duh was sarcastic.) |

but yea... surrey's only a shithole if you look at it from the other side of the bridge. there's quite a few well established communities out here (fraser heights, morgan creek, well ok that's about it). i don't see how you can call this place a shithole cracktown when you can go to any other city on the other side of the fraser river, and find the same shit. look at sapperton in new west. look at maillardville in coquitlam. look at the metrotown area 5-6 years ago before they cleaned it up (it's still pretty mess down by the jubilee). look at east van... i've lived here my whole life, and i haven't seen nearly as much trashy shit out here (in my life!) as i have during like 4 hours in downtown vancouver... except for all the dp's and shit, but that's another story... |

Also, you can't really say that it's because of "all the bitches that work there", simply because you may know one or two people that work in the entire company (approx. 225 employees at store level). As for the "trashy clothes" comment, I don't think that many people would consider Triple Five Soul, J.Lo, Ecko Red, Flo Sport, Dish, Mavi, Silver, Dorinha, Dickies, Kitchen, etc 'trashy'. Quote:

And for me to say that it was stupid of those guys to come into the mall and hit on the staff at my store is completely fair. The staff are being paid to do their job, and if they are being hit on by some stupid guys then how exactly are they doing their job(s)? Malls are for shopping, working, and the occasional bite to eat. Malls are not supposed to be for loitering, although many people seem to think that they are. Quote:

With all the weird people on surrey busses I sometimes wondered whether surrey turned you into a nutcase or something.
it's interesting when you compare downtown public transport and surrey transport. Especially the d/t transport heading towards west-van in the park royal area. Every one's all decked out in suits and the bus is actually CLEAN. Surrey busses smell like greasy unwashed hair, and there are always drunk people puking on the bus, or some old pervert trying to hit on you. There are 12 year old kids out past midnight who's parents KNOW that they are out there somewhere and don't give two shits. Old parents coming home drunk from bars. singing and laughing loudly on the bus. PEOPLE DON'T PAY FOR THEIR BUS FARES 50% PERCENT OF THE TIME and the bus driver doesn't care cause he's used to it... At the bus terminal kids are talking about hitching a cab they CAN'T EVEN PAY FOR. You can rip off cab drivers cause they at least appreciate that you're paying them upfront. The graffitti is so ugly you'd think a 5 year old could do better. I personally have never really physically been harmed while going to surrey, but I've been harassed MANY MANY times. From my personal experience going to a section of surrey for about a year now, I appreicate my own neighbourhood. Last edited by yoko*; Jun 03, 03 at 11:47 AM. |
