if you're used to drinking from cartons/bottles, drinking from the jug is akin to siphoning gas. it might be because you drink from the jug all the time, your tastebuds are worn out, and unable to distinguish between good and bad milk. either that or you just need to buy a carton and reconsider what you remember.
