a big fu to starbucks (r)
In the spring of 2003 this year Starbucks (R) sued Haidabucks for name infringement. Just as I buy Starbucks products, and may even be considered anti-Starbucks I fully oppose this so called infringement law-suit. However, I fully support First Nations people, small business, and coffee! Check out these websites for further details.
http://www.haidabuckscafe.com/ Victory for HaidaBucks Posted by: resist, Section: Regional News Posted on Fri Aug 29th, 2003 at 12:20:13 PM PST By ALEXANDRA GILL From Friday's Globe and Mail The coffee in Masset, B.C., tastes exceptionally strong and sweet this week as the owners of a small native-owned cafe savour their victory over Starbucks.HaidaBucks, a 60-seat restaurant in a town of 700 on the remote northern edge of the Queen Charlotte Islands, was just an aromatic drip in the rain forest before the international coffee giant filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit last spring. In true David-and-Goliath fashion, the owners of HaidaBucks stood up to the multibillion-dollar company, becoming international heroes in the process Last edited by vesperstina; Sep 07, 03 at 12:39 PM. |

i didn't read the haidabucks site because it's down. very impressive.
but i did go to the starbucks site! you're calling this a david & goliath fashion. good call. last time i read the bible, david didn't put a big KICK ME sign on his fucking forehead, and then cry when someone did actually kick him. oh but they're first nations people. let's cry them a river cuz they have a tan. they're definately not your average human being, what with that tan and all. oh yea i forgot that you can pleed ETHNIC in court these days. HOW DO YOU PLEED CHIEF WALKSWITHALIMP ----- UHH I'M RED. i'm with starbucks on this. in the playing field we are all equal; there will always be some whiney motherfucker who thinks "it's not fair!", but there will also always be that dude on the other team who's gonna run that bum over... either shutup and play the game, or go home and play barbies with your sister. you get sympathy for crying, not respect. LET'S GO STARBUCKS LET'S GO! |

unfortunately i can't stay and further this argument with you.
it was a pleasure. i admire a person who can insult one's intelligence with jokes that are stupid enough for one to understand. oh well you can continue arguing... maybe i'll come home later and have a nice cry over it. i'm sorry if i made you mad. bye for now. |

ur right they ARE first nations people very observant. How ever its not because they have a tan, first nations people have been brutalized ever since europeans stepped foot on thier soil. First by raping and pillaging the villages,bringing various diseases and thus alot of innocent people died. Then came along residential schools where children that were sick with terburculosus were forced to sleep with children who were not sick BECAUSE THEY WERE AND I QUOTE "SAVAGES", then children as young as 4 years old were molsested by priests and beaten by nuns, some were even murdered, I read an article of one persons memory of residential school...he was playing in the yard and tripped over the body of his best friend :) When will native people stop being shafted by white people? Dont you think thier culture and people have suffered enough? Fcuk starbucks and fuck u bob u ignorant sunofabitch. |

aww bob your insults are trite.
let me give you some background. i heard about the law-suit when it began in the spring, and totally forgot about it for a few monthes, and just today i was looking on resist.ca and it said it was over. i'm happy. i posted about it before in a reply? on this site. so i updated here as well about the likes of haidabucks versus starbucks. that's about all i have to say. one more thing, have a nice day! |

just so you know, a lot of small businesses aren't helping the poor coffee growers in south america.
starbucks does offer fair-trade coffeebeans. nobody buys it, it tastes RANK, and you can only buy 1 pound bags of it, but they have it. |
|
|||
I'm going to look into this fair bean shit tomorrow.
What I really like about this small business coffee is the service, fair price, and the taste. I'll ask where they buy their beans so I can be morally gratified. And Moon Pennies is rad, I used to buy coffee from them when I was 13. Last edited by vesperstina; Sep 07, 03 at 05:46 PM. |

they've got lots of info there. including a list of retailers/wholesalers/etc. that carry fair-trade coffee. i wonder what kinda beans haidabucks used. they did use beans, right? |

(michael using vespertinas account) fuck, this is a case of grasping at straws if I've ever read one you seem a little slow so I'll spell it out for you. first off the "fair trade" shit really isn't that great a deal for the people picking the beans. their was a pretty decent article on it a couple months ago in the Georgia Straight and there's a lot of other resources out there if you look. secondly, do you think Starbucks really gives a rat's ass about fair trade coffee? I'll answer that question for you: no. they're turning people's needs and concerns about how those who weren't fortunate enough to be born in the western world into profitable marketing pitch. try and walk into a starbucks and not trip over all the literature they provide you with about how hard they're trying to make the world a better place with their fair trade coffee. do you really wanna live in this world where caring is reduced to a commodity? finally, yes not every locally owned coffee house buys their beans at a fair price. so who are you gonna support? the community owned coffee house that if it does well would probably be very open to supporting fair trade coffee? Or the faceless multinational corporation that rapes the developing world, tries it's damndest to coffee coffee prices down and continues to do their best to crush community based businesses? ultimately, change begins at home. supporting community based businesses and organizations is the quickest way to bring about global change. I don't read this board very often but I'm wondering is this the new bob? the shocking in your face bob who isn't affraid to tell it like it is? I miss the lonely and depressed bob who used to post lots of creepy things to Leslie online (can we get that one back as he was far more amusing?). if you don't care that's fine. you have the right not to care but please smash your keyboard over your head so I don't have to read inane opinions. furthermore, doing this may protect you in the future when new Bob says or does something that infringes on Starbucks' intellectual property rights. |
