That is incorrect. Alberta has no provincial tax, that is the only province that does not. All others do. |

i only ask for no tax on items that are like close to the $100 range or more. Anything under around $50 or so i dont really care. But i agree that these retailers are cunts when they get all bitchy to you or decline you. Like everybody has said who gives a fuck? It dont come out of their paycheck anyways.

ah yes. "No Tak! No Tak!" running joke at my place of work.
I personally could care less. If you fill out the form properly and let me know beforehand, it's no skin off my back. What people don't realize is that the information isn't for us, we really don't care where the hell you live. That stuff goes to the gov't and if it's not filled out properly our company has to pay back the tax money to the gov't. I usually give them a hard time if they're bitchy about it or let me know AFTER I've rang everything through. "Oh so that Plus Size Jones New York suit and all that skimpy lingerie is for your 14 year old. riiiiiiiiiiiite." Last edited by Taddy_Bare; Sep 30, 03 at 05:23 AM. |

At 15 you're legally allowed to work and therefore you have to pay the PST (this is the whole theory behind the tax exemption idea). Quote:
These items have to be purchased from a store that specializes in school supplies, ie. Staples, Grand and Toy, etc. For example, I'm not allowed to PST-exempt any backpacks or notebooks or binders at my store even if they are for school because we don't specialize in these items. For anyone who cares, here's the list of items that may be PST-exempt (from http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/ctb/TopicIndex.htm#C): * dresses, suits, coats, skirts, trousers, blouses, shirts, underwear, sweaters, pyjamas * socks, stockings * gloves, mittens * hats * footwear * baby clothing - bibs, blankets, bunting bags, cloth diapers, rubber pants, shawls (children's blankets are taxable) * belts and braces * brassieres, garters, girdles, panty hose, socks without feet * sportswear - baseball caps and shoes, bathing caps and suits, gym shorts and skirts, football boots, ski boots, sweat suits and shirts, track suits and shoes, sweaters for hockey, soccer, lacrosse, etc * ties * uniforms - school, Girl Guide, Brownie, Boy Scout, Cub, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, etc (not including protective padding) |
