Having to dress "nicely" when applying for a job

call us desperate (cuz we are), but both Aki and I decided to apply to THE GAP. Unfortunatley...that's what it has come to. GAP.....

annnnnyways...i was just gonna wear my "super twiggy" pants and a white dress shirt and a tie...but then my brother (who incidently already works at the gap) was like "NOOOOO!! YOU HAVE TO DRESS NICE!!" to drop off an application form and a resume??? ummm ok dude...so he went into his closet and started throwing clothes at me for me to try on. i had to wear TIGHT jeans (i don't DO tight pants) and a fucking V-neck sweater? and if that wasn't bad enough, i had to wear these crazy ass black shoes that had a fucking WOODEN sole. my feet hurt like a bitch. i couldn't even walk in them. and then my brother was like "and to top it off...you can wear this MESSENGER BAG" ummmm ok. i couldn't wear my crazy contacts cuz they would think i was the devil's spawn. and then i actually had to brush my hair and stuff?? i usually wear hats....but OH NO...not today. so my hair was all stupid. i looked like such a pooslut. i met up with aki at park royal and even SHE was like "dude you look totally different". so then aki started filling out her application form. she was almost done (it's a pretty hardcore application form that takes a long time to fill out) and she came to a section that asked you to describe the skills you have that would be beneficial if and when you get hired. SOOOO....aki was gonna put down "i'm interested in this position because..." but instead she put down by accident "I'm interestING" i was like "uhhh maybe they won't notice the mistake??" and aki was like "AHHHHHH!! NO!! WHITEOUT!!! I NEED IT!!" so we ran to london drugs...i was gonna rip a package of whiteout open so she could just use the whiteout without paying for it...but then i realized that i'm a pussy so i couldn't. So then she went and bought it...fixed up her application form and we went to drop off the forms at the gap. as we entered the store, i looked to see if my resume was still attached to my application form...and it was! BUT...the table we were writing on had MELTED BUTTER on it and my resume had like grease stains ALL OVER IT. so yeah...they probably think i'm some butter eating PIG. so much for THAT job...

i WISH i could have worn baggy dress pants and a shirt. i soooooo would have but ehhhh...i figured if i wanted a CHANCE getting the job, i might as well conform to their "standards"

i dunno aki...she probably was just like saying all that shit to make me feel like i had a chance. in all honesty...i kind of hope i don't get it cuz that will mean that i'll have to "dress nicely" every time i work. 15 minutes of dressing up was bad enough...i don't think i can handle it for days on end. but yeah man...IF (emphasis on if) i get a job, i'll frame nazila for shoplifting and then she'll get fired and you will be her replacement. sound good? nazila is going DOOOOOOWWWWWWN

she might be nice...but when push comes to shove, EVERYTHING CHANGES

i'd rather work at a place like HMV or musicworld though. sammy the "genius" came up with a GENIUS plan: i should PROBABLY apply there.

OFF THE WALL! OFF THE WALL!

Dammit kids! WHY WOULD YOU APPLY AT THE FUCKIN GAP!

Apply at Off the Wall downtown.
All Off the Wall locations SHOULD be hiring around the beginning of October. Seriusly. I've been working there for almost 4 months and it's great. The staff is fun, dress code is really slack (you can wear sweats! and it doesn't have to be OTW merchandise).

The discount is SWEET too!

Fact of the matter is, yeah it sucks but you gotta dress professional. When I managed my clothing store, anyone not in interview attire when handing in their resume was automatically chucked. You have to show that you care enough to put in the time an effort. It's not about whether or not you are going to be wearing those clothes. Standard procedure. And by the way, never white out your applications... that also doesn't look good because it looks like you're not thinking before writing.

Either way, good luck!

says the girl that self admitedly doesn't know how to dress.
*rolls eyes*

the key to what the wear when it comes to any job is dressing appropriate for the position you are trying to fill.
They should be able to hire you on the spot and not have to get you to go home to put something more suitable on.

You're right. I have no idea what's "fashionable" and "trendy" outside the office... but in the office, I am dressed to the 9's. I expect the same from people who come looking to me for jobs.

As much as I would like to believe this... I can't.

I'm right now hiring for an assistant (for myself) and if someone came in dressed in jeans, I would not hire them.
