panhandlers
My sister and I were walking around downtown today, looking at the shops and whatnot, and this guy, this deaf guy handed us this peice of paper, i thought it was a flyer of some sort, until i noticed this creep following us, buggin' us for money. I gave him back his stupid peice of paper, but he kept on following us. So, we went into starbucks and finally got rid of him. I feel so bad for these people, but c'mon, don't harrass us! Lesson learned, don't take peices of paper from people. It's such a sad situation in Vancouver, there's so many panhandlers. Any other thoughts?

Whenever I'm at the Metro food court there's always some guy that puts a piece of paper down on the table and expects some sort of donation. After awhile he'll come back to collect it. It's never gotten to the point where he'll follow me or anything tho. Whenever I DO give money to those ppl my friend's always telling me not to cuz for all we know they could be faking it or it's towards drugs and blah blah blah.

i hate the coquitlam regular pan handlers that always harass me.... like come on.... who the hell pan handles in coquitlam! and they always ask me too, giving lame excuses like bus money and phone money and taxi money and i forgot my wallet and i'm hungry.....cept this one guy who actually says he's pan handling... and some other chick who does that too.... i run away when i see them now!... easy way out!

there is no reason these people cant make the change for the better, if they wanted to be crack heads maybe they should go get a job and suport themselfs... not exspect everyone else to.
i do feel bad sometimes and give in, but in the end all i can think about is what my money is being used for. :finger: |

Anyways, on those people getting a job it really isn't that easy. Whenever my mom says something about them getting off their asses and getting a job I ask her "Would YOU hire them?" and she doesn't really say anything. She'll be like "Oh it's different cuz they wouldn't be applying at my place..." (Handbag store). But same thing, I'm pretty sure the majority of work places would not be hiring them out of all the people applying nowadays. I think they should start off volunteering for various places before trying to get an actual job anywhere. Hell it's even hard for me to get a job...outta 50+ dropped resumés only got 1 or 2 call backs. |

Used to throw whatever nickels and dimes I might have clinking in my pockets just to get rid of them but eventually just got fed up with it all.
Anyone can make something out of nothing if they really wanted to. It's one of the perks of being human. It's not like civilization all of a sudden appeared overnight. You have to work for it. And as for those who say they can't do anything because they are crippled, I have two words for you: Stephen. Hawking. |

Make like the rest of us who actually live in Vancouver and they'll eventually just become part of the landscape. Looking at them in the eye and saying 'sorry, no' wouldn't hurt either. I think there's something about the bums in this city that can smell someone from the suburbs a mile away, they make for easy prey :P |

My sister was a junkie. She chose to leave home and live on the streets downtown when she was like 16...(nothing wrong with our family, really, she just wanted to do drugs and be all alternative and anti-establishment or whatever). Anyways. She made tons of cash panhandling. She has on and off for like 8 years now. Even when she does have a place to live she will go downtown and panhandle to make money to party. This is why I never ever ever ever give money to panhandlers. And I don't even feel bad about it. Fuck that. I work shitty joe jobs for under $9 an hour. I am not about to contribute to your case of old stock/rock of crack or whatever. eat a dick. I refuse to feel guilty. I know how much money you make doing this, and I am not about to contribute. Anyways, like Myra said, I've just gotten used to them. They don't bother me one bit. Last edited by prozac; Dec 12, 03 at 04:15 AM. |
