Being harassed by the homeless!
So I was walking along Georgia St on my lunch break today, enjoying my much-needed smoke break, when I was approached by a homeless man wanting a cig. The majority of the time, I have no problem handing out the occasional one, however today, I honestly didn't have any to give him. I apologized, said no, and continued on my way. The guy started walking along with me, a little too close for comfort I may add, and continued to ask me. After I said no for the 3rd time he started swearing and calling me every name in the book! This continued until I finally got outside of my building, and when I turned to go up the stairs the guy grabbed at my bag! Luckily, I had a better grip on it than him, so both me and my bag got into the building ok. Then the homeless guy took-off.
I can't believe that something like that resulted from not giving the guy a smoke! :finger: What is the world coming to when you can't walk downtown during the middle of the day, on a busy street, without worrying about those around you? |

Yeah, that would piss me right off too. I'm so used to seeing them and dealing w/ them that I don't even notice them anymore.
Except for that super scary/crazy/insane old guy down town that's always yelling at asian people. If I wasn't scared for my life every time I saw him I'd throw a hard object at him. Last edited by Rhianna; Apr 16, 04 at 04:00 AM. |

Well I'm glad the solution to the homeless problem is that simple! All those lazy bastards have got to do is start making better decisions, obviously! I don't know if you've noticed, but the homeless problem is getting out of hand everywhere in the developed world . This suggests to me that there isnt some world wide fit of collective selfishness and bad decisionmaking. It points to a deeper, systematic problem. Pointing the finger and blaming people who have had a harder life than you are capable of imagining (from your nice, middle class home that was thoughtfully provided for you by your parents - who likely paid for the internet you're using right now) is certainly not going to fix the problem. |

Im workin my ass off for everything that i got , You dont know me , how could you say things like that ? im tryin 2 say that buggin ppl for cigarettes and then trying to steal their purse or wallet ETC. is not the way to go... get my point ? make better decisions. |

Oh I got your point.
I'm not pretending that homeless people are all nice rosy people who have just been mis-percieved by society - there are alot of psycho, criminal, and scary people on the street. But you totally missed my point. Which was that homeless people didn't all start out as lucky as most of us, and that assuming they ended up where they are because they were just stupid about planning their lives shows just how sheltered yours has been. Get a clue. |

working and living downtown is hard on your nerves as you see the same people every day. they ask you the same questions.... a part of me is like if I give you money will you ask me again tomorrow? Or will this smoke/quarter/j-bone save you? I guess it will save you for the night but we'll see you tomorrow...

Ahh this reminds me of sumthing that happend a month or 2 ago. I was walking down granville st. with my friend justine and this homeless woman with a cup walked by, she harsh stared me down and I was like wtf. Then she turned around and began to walk behind me. Before I knew it the homeless bitch grabbed my shoulders and starting kicking me frum behind! I was way to confused to really do anything but then her homeless b/f started yelling at her and she ran around the corner. I still dont fully understand why she did that :( but it was mean.

I remember my friend and I went downtown after work one day because we had like 30 left over muffins that we were just going to throw out. Only like 4 homeless people took any. To super cool old guys and a few younger kids. The rest were super rude. They kept saying "No, i don't want food. I think you should give me money." or "How about you give me money instead."
I'm so sorry my muffins can't buy you drugs. |

I think it's pretty narrow minded to blame the patient for getting the disease. Unless that disease is HIV, then blame away. But if they got it from a blood transfusion it's okay to have HIV and you shouldn't blame the patient for getting the disease.
The point is, as the only homeless person on this board, I find it discouraging to see so many people harping on homeless people. It's a pretty uneducated and ignorant way of looking at one societies problems. I guess it's a lot easier to blame the person on the street than the causes that put them there. Like I'm a fat useless freak who has wasted her life getting humped by computer nerds and dealing pot . No one will hire me for work, so the street or the cat piss scented slums my friends live in are my only options. If only the government would only pay me to keep it real all day long. I'd give Gordon Campbell instant underground cred. Last edited by bli5s; Apr 16, 04 at 05:31 AM. |

Man, that troll thing is getting pretty old. I thought most people had left that kind of childishness back in grade 10 or so. What, is your life so devoid of joy that in order to hide the blackness inside yourself you need to constantly trash someone else who's life is really none of your business? And anonymously too, like a coward. I've never even met Bilss, and even I think you're a tool. A+ |
