Just bought iPod of eBay and the screen is f*cked!
So I'm browsing ebay late at night, come across a 10gb iPod for only 160$ US. Not only that it comes with a pair of Stanton Proffesional Dj headphones free. So I grab it right away, knowing it's late and not a lot of people will find this one.
I'm so happy that I find such a great deal, the hottest new mp3 player on the market ( not the newest model mind you ) and great set of headphones to boot. After waiting the week for delivery, everything is in perfect order, except the screen has a huge black bar across the middle ! I couldn't believe it, I can barely see what I'm playing. harassing the guy right away for a huge deduction to cover repairs! |

ipods are brilliant. The reason I like them though is because they are simple and elegant and have a nice feel about them... they don't feel cheap like the rest of the other crap out there... There is a reason they are the most popular mp3 player and cost more than the competition. I checked out the ipod mini's in an apple store in California last week. Those things are sweet ass. When they were introduced I thought they were way too expensive but after seeing and using one I can understand why they are sold out everywhere.

iPod is like all Apple products. Stylish, sleek, attractive, and stupidly expensive.
http://www.neurosaudio.com/ A retail MP3 player costs about $100. A retail laptop harddrive costs about $80. Why should a retail combination of both cost twice as much as the sum of its parts? |

Cool. Any clue how much it'll cost? Because the NetMDs are already at about $200. I'd imagine these would be at least $300, most likely $400, which puts them right up there with the Neuros, and I'm betting Neuros' features will rock it.
Personally, what I like most about Neuros is the open source firmware. Seriously, what's the point of closed source firmware (aside from codec support, of course). All it does is limit the usership to whatever operating system you happen to support. I'm a linux user and have zero windows boxes. I got a NetMD for Christmas and eventually ended taking it back because it was as good as a tape player for me (and as such not really worth the $200) considering I couldn't do digital transfers to it. Neuros and Karma work on ANY system. And for features on the Neuros, your only limit is yourself. |

i picked up the base model netmd for $100 after christmas. regular was $120-40.
the press release was about 2-3 months ago, so i reckon it'll be out pretty soon. but i'm sure the first models will probably be around $200ish just checked out the neuros website. holy crap that's pretty cool. recording off and playing through the radio? wow. something i'll keep in mind when i upgrade. |

Show me an mp3 player ( beyond a 64mb mpio joke ) thats 100$ , any good one with decent storage will be far more. And yes the retail combination will cost more, iPod's have a lot more features. You bring in factors like battery life, LCD screen, case, expansions and the cost goes up. You add apple's un-surpassed warrantee's of quality and the service goes up. Then I'll admit there's the "trendy" factor that increases the cost aswell. however you can skip all that and just buy a used on eBay. the new iPod's hold 45gb of MP3's, thats more then any other model on the market right now. |

Sorry. Battery life, LCD screen, case, expansions etc. etc. are all things that go into your typical 64/128M mp3 player. RCA, Rio, and a host of others have MP3 players for about $100 at that size using flash memory. A lithium ion battery does not cost the amount of excess that they're asking for in an iPod.
If you think Apple doesn't inflate their hardware prices like mad, you're sorrily fucking mistaken. Click the link I gave you next time, tardass. Apple is the lead contender only because they were quick into the market and used the technology the best first. Also, they base a LOT of their usership on esthetics. They still overprice their hardware, just like they ALWAYS have. |

you didn't even read my post, if you had I agreed with you and said "there's a trendy factory" that apple ups the price with. Yes they increase the cost, but once again you're getting what you paid for.
they didn't become the lead contended because they were quick into the market. There's no intelligence behind that statement, because infact mp3 players had been in the market for some time, nomad had even develloped the first 5gb player before apple. Apple was even under contract by IBM to not enter the music industry and were sued upon the release of iTunes music store. the rose to the top very quickly because of the quality of their product. It's durable, doesn't break down, is sleak, it's in high demand, and it's quite frankly the best mp3 player on the market. just makes economic sense. |
