Ahh, yes - this is another lesson in why we should love the BC liberals.
Last fall (after the worst fire season ever) Gordo rejected a commission report that said they should increase their preventitive fire budget (a move they estimated that would pay for itself two times over, not to mention prevent significant damage) and, glorious leader that he is, actually CUT the firefighting budget. Now, of course things are burning totally out of control. YAY LIBERALS! |

I was in Liloette the time they had the first fire, I saw the lightning strike the side of the mountain as the fire erupted, it was pretty insane.
Over the weekend it got so bad we had to help my friends brother evacuate his home. The lake was covered in ash, as was my car from just parking. We saw a fire erupt from just the HEAT. It was a gorgeous day and suddenly this fire just comes from nowhere on top of the mountain beside a bunch of telephone lines, saw the bomber come and put the red chemicals on it, took awhile.. then a news chopper flew in for some shots. We went swimming almost under it, then an avalanche of rocks started falling from the sky all around us and the boat, kids were in the water.. huge rocks, too. So me and my friend swam across the lake to get pictures with the forest fire, climbing up for about an hour up slate rock to get the pictures, and on our way down we realized it circled around us and we got trapped and had to find a detour around it without getting caught up again. They are scarier then they look from up close, i've never seen flames so high in my life. BC is burning. We can prevent some of them, but not all. They really do just spark from the heat, maybe a reflection off a rock - anything. I can extremely mad at people who flick their smokes out the window while driving - THAT can be prevented, and causes more fires then I would imagine lightning would. |

Oh, wait, some people here want money for nothing. Vote NDP then, steal from my pockets (and those of actual revenue and job producing Canadians) a little more... The less government we have the better. Family and friends should be our support network, not our government. Giving the government the responsibility of family is how you turn it into Big Brother. I'm kind of off-topic by now, but in a reasonably correct forum, so whatever. |

there are no fires in the koots right now. im not worried at all, they said we have more fires this year then last but none of thek are in areas where there is a huge risk to life and property..unlike last year. this province is just so big and empty they could let 60% of the mother fucker burn and nothing bad would come of it other then some really trippy smoke maaaaaannnn. p.s socialists dont know how to effectively manage anything they go out to ensure "social and economic justice." but inadverently increase redtape and taxes thus killing the economy which put B.C in a 8 year long recession while the rest of north america experienced the greatest period of sustained economic growth which created prosperty not only for the rich but managed to raise thousands of low income earners out of poverty. The only effective role the NDP would (or should) have in governance is to provide a social conscious to pro-business government that is capable of actually maintaining and expanding our social and economic infrastructure by not squandering tax revenue, though favourtism towards public sector unions and public servants as ecidenced by past extravegent salaries and benefit increases, without and correlating increase in workload or responsibilities.
