Not really. Education is available to anyone with an internet connection these days. The only difference is you don't get a super expensive piece of paper proving it.

yeah..very very very slowly.

the fact is education is becoming availble only to the extremely bright. the fact you need an average of 84% to be accepted into UBC or SFU indicates to me that perhap tuition fees are not high enough, which is creating a shortage of space in our local universities.

the cost of me going to school for this year will be around 6k including books, tuition upass everything..thats really not much if you work full time during summer and part time during school. The fact that i encounter very few people that work part time while they are in school, and that only a fairly small portion of these students are actually paying their own tuition(this is from my own informal survey of course) indicates to me that money is not the main issuse which resticts people from a post secondary education. we can also take a look at the absolutely massive number of students who enrol in non accredited colleges with the hope of later transfering into a local universities as an indication that the admittance criteria necessary for acceptance into university is the number one factor in restricting university access.

when i look at UBC students i see mostly middle and upper middle class fuckheads(like myself only with less ambition) who have moms and dads pay for all their shit, i have only encountered a hand full of stundents who are responsible for paying their own tuition as well as books, at the same time these same kids i have met that pay for their own shit also live at home with mom and dad (or just mom, or dad, uncle sue, grandma i dont give a fuck) so their living expenses are highly subsidized.

i dont buy this university is too expensive bullshit, the fact of the matter is tuition freezes ultimately fuck us because they limit the ability of universities to accomdate students, because they limit the amount of capital universities have to expand their facilites. the fact of the matter is universities are still suffering the impact of the tuition freezes imposed by the ndp and long since ablosihed =by the "evil" liberial government, demographic trends are that there is a huge glut of the population whcih is now in the 16-24 year old range(the echo boom) so this exacerbates shortages which is why even schools like douglas college are struggling to accomdate the extra demand(and if anyone can remember the blight of portable classrooms which was typical of every lowermainland school during the early and mid 90's its those same kids that occupied those classrooms that are putting so much stress on our universities) this demographic just makes everyhitn even more fucked, even tho the government actually has increased funding fo education in the attempts to increase space at universities there is alot of lag in the actual construction of these facilities.

p.s i know alot of people can jump on me saying that oh your parents pay for your schoo..its a load of shit, i relaize that im lucky to have parents that value education and have the ability to pay, but its really a moot point since i couldve paid all of my tuition myself and still had money to fuck around (as long as i lived at home) the only fdiffernece is i wouldnt have a brand new car and be rockin expensive clothes and get fucked up everyweekend. stupid loans are easy to get, post secondary education is an investment in your fucture and most the time you have to take risks and put your balls on the line to get ahead in life so people should get used to it, but i suspect that many of those complainign about student fees are people in arts or sciences who are gonan end up working some lax ass job as a public servant for the rest of their life, it really dosnt surprise me. ive never heard a commerce student complain about tuition increases.

p.p.s if you complain about the fact you had to take out student loans to get your stupod bullshit liberial arts or BA decree and now you have to pay all that shit off and its extra hard because you only make 9.50 an hour working at starbucks because your unambitious and not asggressive enought to bust balls to find a better job you can suck my fuckin dick( i swear to god anyone with half a brain and a whole lot of ambition should be picking gold from the fuckin street in this economic climate) if your gonna take out loans on a degree you should make sure that its was worth the hardship.

p.p.p.s im an elitest asshole.

it sounds ridiculous, but i would rather enjoy myself while im young than grow old, bitter and regret not doing the things i wanted to when i was young. i have the rest of my life to worry about money, i see no need to start now.
werd homey as long as it makes you happy, fits your lifestyle, what you want to do in life and especially if money isnt an issuse, then you should do what you want to do and fuck anyone who doubts you.

money isnt everything to everyone, but to me it is, tho im forunate i really really really love buisness and almost everything it involves(except accounting, which i comprehend but do not like.) iIm just really fuckin lucky knowing what i like and what i want to do.

oh sean. you make too much sense.
i complain because im paying too much for a diploma... but its a diploma i want. i dont need it, but i want it. its not even the diploma i want, its the training by the certain teachers. its the flour in my cake.

some moments i wonder why im gonna spend about $6000+ this year on this diploma, then i remember how happy it makes me to be at school. but hten i add up my two years ... $11,000 ... and i cry a little inside. and i think "jeeze this would be alot easier if i just took out a loan" but im a kid that doesnt want a loan or a line of credit, because then id be stuck paying off something that took me 2 years to get for like 5 years+.
i see my brother spending stupid amounts of money getting his bachelor of fine arts... and to what extent? hes out of money so now he has to work his ass off until he can afford to go back to school to get his masters to teach. and really a bfa in the real world tends to stand more so for "bachelor of fuck all"

anyways where am i going with this? heres my plan, all the kids that have parents that pay for them when they dont want to be in school should give me their tuition money.... those are the kids that make me the angriest.....

but truely, i think if your ambition is there, you can make it. i have no idea where im gonna get the extra casht his year for school, but fuck it, ill find it because i love it and wouldnt be happy anywhere else.... except maybe brasil.

hey man if you're able to feed yourself and pay your bills, as long as your content does it really matter what you do or how much money you make?

personally i dont think so.

but i know what makes me happy, and what i want to do in life..and that is what makes me happy..so im gonna pursue it.

not really man...its still beter then someone with only a highschool or wank ass diploma..in situations like that, you have to be aggressive and honsetly with a little bit of luck and some hard wokr a bfa will get you pretty far.

p.s my mommies boss the (prez of thecompany) has a bfa in musical composition (along with an mba though, and alot of hardcore experience) runs this company with net profit of 60 million a year and that mother fucker makes like 440k usd a year(i know cuz im a stockholder, foo...)

ambition in hardwork even with out education will get you far, but formal academieven if its for wang shit like opera will still help you out remendously.

and that litle bit of advantage is wether you think tis junk or not, can help out tremendously.

^ yes its better than a high school diploma, and on a resume it looks great because it shows you are determined\follow shit through, but what i was saying is that there isnt many jobs out there specificaly for a person with a bfa, expecailly any job that pays well. my brother wouldnt be happy in any other buisness than art, and he wants to teach at a post secondary level. that takes a looooong time and alot of money. i see him struggle his ass off (money wise) to get his diplmoas\degrees from the top schools, and i know how much debt he is in, and so far all he has is his bfa.... he wants to go to glasco (sp?) to get his masters because the school there is totally amazing, but hes gotta pay off at least some of his loans and credit cards.
and i dont see his bfa helping him out with that yet.

for me... i can apply my diploma to my other love, working with young kids, and teach community art classes. not alot of pay, but something i would enjoy. and im not ready to get my bfa yet, i got other shit to do in life before i dedicate 4 straight years. but i think i may go and get my ece at some point and teach either kindergarten or preschool... really ifi could be a student forever, learning everything that intrested me, id be tha happiest cause iw ould worka ll sorts of jobs at any time.

thanks man. i can't say money isn't an issue, it's more or less an issue im trying to avoid for now. i have the ambition to be wealthy and comfortable in life. but i think in order to make lots of money you have to give up alot of your freedom. and being able to snowboard isnt a freedom im willing to give up just yet. i dont plan on being a chef forever, but like i said before it's something i will do as long as it suits my lifestyle.
