Paying rent!!!

I just got told by my mom that if I wanted to live at home I have to pay rent....

Did any of you have to pay rent when still living at home? If so, how much and how old were you?

i had to(and still am) paying "rent" to live at home...

started when i was 18(20 now..ya ya i should move out..but i have no cash)
i only pay $125 a month, then my internet and cable and shit...

rather choked about it, cuz even since i pay rent, i cant do certain things like if i had my own place

No.
I never had to pay rent while I was living at home.
I was going to school, though.
But even if I was only working, I don't think my parents would have made me pay rent.
They would have rather have me put that money in mutual funds or something.

It's a cultural thing.

I paid rent to my Mom when I got out of High School and started working full time, if I would have gone to school then she wouldn't have expected me too. I paid her I think $300 per month, which wasn't too much.

but seriously if they did, i could pay it now, but i like it this way.

they want me to save up and its alot easier this way. If they n eed money that bad i'll give it to them anyways

My parents would have definitely charged me rent, but I moved out a month after I graduated highschool.

Just be lucky, the rent your parents charge you is pretty small compared to what you actually could be paying if you didn't live at home...

You're almost 19 and you're out of highschool, which means that legally and life experience wise you're becoming an adult. I don't think your parents are out of line at all asking for you to pay rent.

i don't pay rent, but i give money to my moms all the time.... however it's not as much as if i had to pay rent

I paid $200 a month after graduating high school.

What they didn't tell me though was they put all that cash into a mutual fund for me.

But remember... whatever they did end up charging you you were getting room and board, cable, heat, hydro and internet. Try getting all that for the same price! Hell... my phone & internet bill is $100 per month.

I paid $150/month when I had a decent paying job. Now I just help buy Groceries and maintain the House instead of paying Rent. I'm rarely here anyways.

i don't pay rent. my parents told me once i graduated i would have to pay rent if i wasn't going to school, but that hasn't exactly happened yet. but i help out here anyways, so it's okay.

Been living on my own and paying rent ever since I was 17...

P.S: I moved out of my house when I was 17.
