YEAH, FUCK PHILOSPHY!

We never got into inductive/deductive arguments in my phil class, but I've taken 2 science classes where the first thing we go over before the class even kicks off is inductive/deductive reasoning. :[

the bells ring no no no no no.

the bells ring no no no no no.
[EDIT] I'm listening to the New Pornographers and seriously this is what they say.

We covered circular arguments for maybe 5 minutes, but had a entire book full of them.

God, Life, What?

Philosophy as a class in university = T3H SUKC~!

Philosophy as a lifestyle = the only useful place for it.

Yeah, that sorta goes with what Martin said!

Taking a phil. course in continuing studies is probably the better route to take or reading up about it in one's own time. I admit that it is completely relavent to a subject, but it's SO ANNOYING TO READ!@#%

And I see no value in a phil degree.

I've found Philosophy to be beneficial mainly as exercise for your brain. It's comperable to running on a treadmill; Neither one technically gets you anywhere, but you're better off afterwards.

I got a minor in Philosophy by accident. I had delcared my major as English Lit, and about 2 weeks before I graduated, some guy from UBC contacted me:

"Ummm.. yeah I was looking at your transcript and you have enough credits for a Philosophy minor as well, if you want it."

I actually had to debate whether I was going to look worse or better having that minor. In the end I said "Sure, what the hell, add that on there."

Lol... although I must admit that to date, my Philosophy minor has got me exactly as many jobs as my English major. :-/

the thing about philosphy is the ideas are interesting but reading it is just so entirely hair pulling. don't get me wrong, i love the ideas and perspective of this article, it's just annoying to read.

i had this one dude come to my house the night before i was going to hear the dalai lama speak, also the same night as the last hockey playoff game. he brought with him platos republic and just totally went off about plato and socretes. i was like, wtf? it's possible that philisophy can be interesting, it's just how it's addressed.

anyway, good luck on reading that.

i'd get the tape. :P

Most kids on this board should learn basic philosophy before they open their fucking mouths. Maybe then they might use a little logic in what they say.

i HAVE to read this shit asap....

i need to finish this course by december and i've got 6 2000 word papers to write.... fuck fuck fuck

but i am curious to learn what soccrates had to say being the most respected man in an ancient civillization. i took this course mainly to expand my boundaries of knowledge in the survival of civillization and society.... what made the Greeks fail in the end was the overambition to pursue excellence... they became the first real scientifically secular civillization imo and thats what made them fail because they underestimated the power of mother nature and God..... interesting stuff.....

who knows what is going to happen to this American hegemony..... do we humans really have the benfit of learning from our mistakes of history or is something even more complex than the plague come along and destroy mankind... something so deadly even the combined effort of the top universities and research labs cannot comprehend...

blah i guess i take back the fact that i don't like philosophy... it is extremely interesting and definetly requires deep thought and imagination.. and a combination of alot of humantarian and scientific thought

Don't worry about my feelings, I'm more up for the argument then being all nice for the sake of it. So are you stating that my bad English shows I don't use logic? Or is it because I'm often disagree able that it's due to bad logic?

I might argue that dyslexia impairs my writing. Also being older, around much longer then most and having a different set of values, that I may see things different then others. Now tell me where's my logic fault in that... ?

I second that. Philosophy has provided me with many engaging conversations and exposed me to many new viewpoints on things. I'm also big on Political Science so debates and arguments are always fun. VOTE ME IN THE NEXT ELECTION!

most people can be pretty ignorant to certain people, especially towards the ones who cannot properly articulate what they may be thinking, deep, intelligent whatever...

sometimes i can get pretty ignorant that way as well. not saying i'm super articulate myself cuz i'm not but at times, when someone displays poor level of commication skills, it is hard to take them seriously. especially someone who has english as his first language.

age definetly matures the mind with wisdom from years of experience and observation, there is no doubt about it. i'm sure you have alot of interesting things to say but then again, the communication part becomes a problem.

but regardless, if you've got some interesting philosophical things to say, i'm down to hearing what it is.

Philosophical, as in abstact or real life?

You do not even have to be deep to use basic logic. You do not have to talk about the stars and God to show you are thinking. Logic most of the time is simple as daily lifes cause and effects.

This is a rave board after all. How much deeper should one be then to state to kids if they do events that cause a lot of heat it hurts other parties because the cops get pissy? Or simple things like just because you listen to jungle, it does not make you an advance raver and some how better then a nu-bie.

Really man.

you're one crazy mofo for taking a phil class that requires 6 essays. good luck on that!

you know what, i just do not know about any of that stuff, absolutely no idea!

:(

you are definately correct, reading and understanding the ideas behind phil does require a lot of deep thought, human understanding, and scientific thought, which i just do not have.
