Being friends with someone because they are gay is just so fucking patronizing. It's equally as ridicilous as being friends with someone because of their race or something.

Believe it or not, some gay people actually want to be taken seriously, and it's pretty hard when some chicks tote them around like such a novelty.

I have a gay older brother and I've seen him have lots of friends that try out the whole 'fag hag' thing with him, and those kinds of friendships are never really meaningless or long lasting.

Hanging out with someone who is of opposite sexuality and of similar race are incomparable. There are more similiarities in the ways that people act when they hold the same cultural and ethnic identity. Those commonalities of culture and socializing are strong points of friendship, and they are not patronizing at all. However, hanging out with someone who is gay and you are not gay ie, hag fag then yeah tha's patronizing or at least annoying. But who knows, not all hag fags are shallow.
