um yeah, here, where profits come before the comfort of an animal, do you really believe that ALL the animals you eat in the western world are killed painlessly?

really.

and also, for those who buy fur coats.. those animals generally don't die a painless death. they DO suffer.

i dunno, but we also have the SPCA and a culture that values animal life, even of those we eat.

speaking from my limited experience, but i went to an excursion to vietnam and the way they treat their dogs there is pretty horrific. animals aren't just abused out of convenience, but for some real sadism too. that whole Godless culture over there is really fucked up.

THE truth about this life-like cuddly toy will shock animal lovers the length and breadth of the country.

It was bought in Scotland and appears to be a cute kitten, curled up asleep safe and sound in its wicker bed.

But this “kitten” is made from the fur of REAL dogs — farmed in horrendous circumstances in China and slaughtered for their pelts.

Some are skinned before they are completely dead.

The horrific discovery was made by Scots MEP Struan Stevenson (pictured left), who bought this particular toy from a souvenir shop in Shetland. It was labelled “Made in China”. Small print on the reverse of the label described it as an “animal by-product”.

We found similar items in a number of shops in Glasgow.

I always find it amusing when people will bitch about cruelty to animals such as dogs, cats, bunnies, etc. but happily go around munching on their steaks and hamburgers like they grew on trees.

BECAUSE IT'S OK TO KILL ANIMALS MERCILESSLY IF THEY'RE NOT CUTE, RIGHT?

If you think cruelty to animals only happens in places where they don't keep animals as pets, I'd recommend you go visit some slaughterhouses.

you're extrapolating upon your "limited experience" to call a foreign country, a "Godless culture"? why that's just like me saying "wow, this white guy's a real dumbass. white people must all be dumbasses!!!"

there are animal lovers and sadists in every part of the world. whether or not they're behind closed doors is a different story.

and for the record.. I have much greater respect for people who can slaughter and eat their own animals than people who are too ignorant to even think about how their food actually got to their plate... something that is unfortunately quite common in the western world.

LOL and a "godless society" is your answer to everything. The people who live in those types of cultures do what they can to sustain their lives. You being mr. conspiracy should be able to grasp the differences between cultures without tainting that image with your closed minded partisan politics. They don't have the convenience of having the animals killed for them. To believe that the meat we eat hasen't come from an animal who suffered is just plain ridiculous. Try watching some PETA videos of how chickens are treated, they suffer WAY longer then animals who are killed and skinned live in a market. You greatly lack perspective and it's your biggest flaw as obviously you are an intelligent person. You have a bright future of lobbying your politics down people's throats.

I have a friend in Hope who treats a family of wild racoons like pets. She has several cats that usually are on the backyard deck. Every night the racoons come onto the deck (they don't hurt the cats but scare them off) and my friend tosses them vegetables, bread etc, and the racoons claw on the back window and try to get her attention. Strange - yes, and probably not the right thing to do (feeding wildlife). Are the racoons pets? Sort of.

But on another question, yes I'm sure there are sometimes cruel things that happen to animals here. But our standard is that we don't accept cruelty to animals and inflicting unnecessary pain even to animals who are to be eventually be used for food.

Yes, people may like to argue about anything and take any side, playing the Devil's Advocate. But is there anyone here who really thinks it is OK to skin animals alive? I hope not!

I'm not playing devil's advocate. and no one is saying that it's ok to skin an animal alive either.

I haven't bothered clicking the link, but how do you know that wherever it is that this racoon was skinned is a place where skinning animals alive is glorified? believe it or not, there are *gasp* sickos here in canada and the states!!!!!

and even if it was from some other country, you can't take this one video and assume that this is something that is glorified 'there', and totally non-existent in 'our' society.

geez people.

newsflash: western society does not have moral superiority over the whole fucking world no matter what wum may say!

Really, so veal is a quick and easy way to go. And all the those baby seals that we skin alive for pelt yah thats real humane. Countries that are poor have more of an excuse for not having great slaughter standards. They can't afford to. You can't call them godless for it you dumb fuck. Here in north america there is no excuse for the shit we put animals through. You can go ahead and be ignorant and think all the meat you eat was killed quickly and painlessly. I'll try and find the link were you see a pig get shocked for 10mins till it finally dies. Or the video of a baby seal getting brutally smacked in the head repeatedly, and skinned alive, or the video of a little baby fox that has its leg nearly amputated in a bear trap and waits for hours in the freezing cold only to be skinned alive.
