Your cats long hair is only caused by one homozygous combination, which happens to be the recessive gene. Unless the male is a true longhair as well, its more likely you will have shorthaired kittens as only one shorthair gene needs to be present to dominate.

I don't want to sound insensitive as I wouldn't even be able to begin to understand what it's like to go through that, however if you leave for fear of you mom... how do you justify that it's safe to leave your cat there?
What does the daddy cat look like? Do you have any idea of who it is?

I'm not really educated on this, I'm drawing from grade 10 biology here and general knowledge acquired on the internet so I could be completely wrong.
I think a gene is a gene and the health and pedigree of the cat is irrelevant. The pedigree only guarantees that the cat has been basically imbreed with only cats that would secure the standard of the breed. I really don't know what color/types of genes are in a ragdoll or anything like that but I did find some info backing what I said about hair length - http://www.siamese.mundikat.nl/subwe...onghair_uk.htm **note, i do realize this site is about siamese cats. A friend of a friends cat just had kittens, mother is calico father is white. There are 4 kittens, 3 black, and 1 grey and white. It's difficult to predict what the cat is going to look like without knowing the recessive genes that the father carries as well as what he looked like. NB. i have a 13-year old senile dog. i just moved home and for the last few weeks my parents have been gone and i've been 'dog-sitting'. the experience has not been pleasant. :| he won't go up the stairs from the basement to the main floor without visual confirmation of me standing at the top, and loud yells of encouragement and applause. he'll cry/whine at the bottom of the front steps until i go out and carry him up. he gets lost when the lights are off and will frantically cry as i race around the house until i find him. if i leave the house (like to go to work!*&($) he's guaranteed to pee somewhere. usually on carpet, just to make it extra special. on walks he won't take one decent sized crap, he'll take about 15 tiny ones. he barks at any kind of noise. he must sleep in his bed ON my bed (meaning i have to cart around his dog bed.) if i'm sitting down and not petting him, he'll cry. if he doesn't get his cookies before i eat dinner, he'll cry.

My cousins had a dog like that... it was a 15 year old toy poodle that had god knows how many diseases, couldnt walk properly, and was blind. I think the reason it couldnt walk was it had some form of arthritius, because all her leg joints were so stiff that she couldnt bend them properly and she would sort of hop his back legs between his front then drag herself around, and would bump into walls and things, or cry. It was so sad to watch :( They waited two years of that before they decided it was to cruel to the dog and put her down.
