^^Yeh but he runs his own store as opposed to working for some corporation, he can curse and refuse to put up with that bullshit, especially when he's doing a service for them by selling the tickets at his store.

IMO, there should be no difference between the customer service provided at a small business versus a branch of a large corporation. Poor customer service is poor customer service no matter how you look at it. It's all about business, and the last thing ANY business needs is a bad rapport with customers because an employee/manager/owner lost his/her cool with another customer.

He is making a service charge, aka profit, off of the sale of tickets, and therefore customers are actually doing HIM a service by purchasing the tickets, the same way that customers pay my bills by buying their clothing from me and my staff.

It's just my opinion, but it's really too bad that not a lot of people share it. It seems that a lot of employees, managers and business owners forget that their paycheque comes because of customers.

absolutely.....


BUT

as the owner of his own business he can always make the decision that the profit that he's making on that transaction and the probable and possible future business and word of mouth traffic off of that one customer is not worth putting up with their soul-destroying bullshit.

ie: have some dignity....

and good customer service should always be flexible, but i've totally cut people off/kicked people out of my bar for being assholes too. of course serving booze you have absolute discretion in that regard :)

i'm absolutely a proponent of good customer service. And cursing out a customer is not something i do lightly. in fact i can only think of one other occasion that it's happened, in 12 years of business (it was a ticket customer that time too). I put up with a lot of bs from record buying customers too, but i never lose my cool with them. The fact was though, and you'd agree if you'd seen it happen, that this girl came in the shop with the intention of causing shit. Her issues obviously went above and beyond what she felt was inadequate customer service... her comments said to me that she'd felt mis-treated by a record store employee previously (bassix was mentioned in her ranting) and had cast an aspersion over all record store emplyees based on that. Plus she seemed insistant that us not answering her phone calls was the result of some plot directed at her, instead of simply the result of our phone line being over-run with PVD calls. In short, she was being a completely selfish & unreasonable bitch. As Auto guessed, my ticket service fees are NOT enough to put up with that type of shit! She's not a repeat customer, so fuck 'er. If I liked taking shit from people that much, i'd still be working at McDonalds.

Honestly, why should you never swear at a customer? If they are swearing at you, and being totally bitchy for no reason, then they fucking deserve it. Consumers walk all over people, knowing that no one would dare treat them the same, just because they are spending money. That is NO REASON to go off on someone. Sure, maybe if the complaints were valid, and he was goofing around in the middle of the store, she would have the right to beak off on him. In my opinion, she is lucky she got the tickets from him.

You should never, and I would never, ever, swear at a customer because it means a loss of business. Period.

What he should have done was refused the tickets, told her he didn't appreciate her tone, and that she should come back when she was ready to be polite and discuss her problems with his business in a mature, professional manner. He has the right to refuse service, and I think in that case he should have used it.
